What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adult Masters Swimming Coach position at Durham Area Masters Aquatics?
Overview:
Durham Area Masters Aquatics (DAMA) is a community of adult swimmers of all ages and abilities who want structured workouts in a fun and welcoming environment. We are beginners, lifelong swimmers, triathletes, dealing with injuries, open-water swimmers, national champions, former college swimmers, and folks who just want to be in the water.
DAMA (www.swimdama.org) has been swimming in Durham since 2009. We provide access to opportunities that help adult swimmers meet their goals in a fun and supportive community. From training for competition to building skills for safety and fitness, DAMA helps all adults in the Durham area to swim.
Position:
DAMA is seeking a swim coach for morning practices (6:15 am - 7:30 am) at Campus Hills Recreation Center in Durham, NC, starting in May 2025. Practices average around 15 swimmers, from beginner to advanced. Substitute coaches are available to fill-in on occasion.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Write and coach swimming workouts
Adapt all teaching approaches to the age & experience, and ability of each participant
Communicate regularly with participants to ensure they are aware of progress
Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations
Accurately complete records and reports
Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed
Ability to work in a wet pool environment
Must possess strong customer service skills
Ability to multitask and be well organized
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to communicate effectively with others, verbally and in writing
USMS experience is preferred but not required. Swim experience and/or swim coaching experience will be necessary.
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
