Job Summary
The Operations Manager will be responsible for the day to day physical operations of the Duplin Events Center for Duplin County. This position reports to the Events Director and is principally responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all crews (individuals) in charge of operating and maintaining the events, the facility and its equipment, as well as performing other duties directed by the Events Director. Operations Manager is accountable for the technical staff, maintenance staff, housekeeping and all individuals working events, inside and outside the center. Employee must stay abreast of broad economic, technical, and programmatic developments, and make recommendations and/or changes to accommodate these developments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Ideal Candidate will be required to perform and possess the following Knowledge, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated knowledge in facility maintenance and operations
- Working knowledge of event rigging principles and techniques
- Working knowledge of lighting and sound systems used for performing arts and the ability to assemble and disassemble same
- Knowledge of building fire and safety techniques and prevention
- Knowledge of telephone system (to include Voice Over)
- Working knowledge of tractors, fork lift and associated equipment required to be used in “putting on” an event
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing at all levels
- Ability to check and evaluate the work of personnel to verify quality, standards of service, and compliance with policies, procedures and safety regulation
- Ability to interpret government regulations
- Working knowledge of county personnel policy specifically as it relates to recruitment, retention and disciplinary action
- Self Motivated
- Works with the Director in oversight, planning and directing operational activities
- Oversight of training and scheduling of operations staff
- Maintain safe and clean work site(s)
- Assists in monitoring compliance with approved project budget.
- May serve as a liaison between promoters
- Assemble information and participate in event settlements with promoters
- May assist in preparation of applications for grants as well as Federal and State assistance
- Participates in training programs for other staff
- Administers routine personnel matters
- Receives and investigates “complaints” pertaining to conduct of supervised staff
- Insures that appropriate records are maintained
- Assists with Emergency Operations during disasters MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.
- Answers the telephone; responds to questions from the public.
- Assists office staff when necessary, including ticketing
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education Required: Four year degree in Business Administration desirable; two years of successful experience in event center facilities operations at all levels Additional Requirements: This is a position that will require a very flexible work schedule and individual will incur long, continuous and demanding hours Equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work involves risks or discomforts, which require special knowledge, skills and appropriate safety precautions, in all weather conditions (inside and outside) and all times of day and/or night. Work demands occasional strenuous effort in the handling of moderately heavy tools, equipment, or materials or walking or standing for extended periods of time.
Pay: $36,991.24 - $55,487.38 per year
