Job Summary
The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation, and the development of internal control policies and procedures. This role plays a key part in strategic financial planning and ensures the integrity of financial information.
Essential Job Functions
Financial Reporting & Compliance
· Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
· Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal policies.
· Coordinate and manage external audits and liaise with auditors.
Budgeting & Forecasting
· Lead the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts.
· Analyze financial trends and provide strategic recommendations to leadership.
· Monitor budget performance and report on variances.
Accounting Operations
· Supervise general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
· Develop and maintain cost accounting processes to analyze service and product costs, and provide recommendations for pricing strategies to support financial goals.
· Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
· Maintain chart of accounts and accounting systems integrity.
Internal Controls & Risk Management
· Develop and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets.
· Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
· Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) or other regulatory frameworks if applicable.
Strategic Financial Leadership
· Provide financial insights to support business decisions and growth initiatives.
· Partner with department heads to align financial goals with operational strategies.
· Support M&A activity, capital investments, and financial modeling.
Team Leadership & Development
· Manage and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional growth.
· Set performance goals and conduct evaluations.
Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Systems & Technology
· Oversee ERP system implementation and optimization.
· Ensure financial systems are scalable and support reporting needs.
· Collaborate with IT to maintain data security and system integrity.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred).
· CPA certification required.
· 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3 years in a leadership role.
· Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
· Experience with ERP systems.
· Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with Sage 100 software.
· Experience in manufacturing, construction, or energy production.
· Knowledge of financial planning software and BI tools.
