What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Shop Hand – Career Growth Opportunity position at Dunrite Automotive?
Looking to Get Your Foot in the Door in the Automotive Industry?
DunRite Automotive & Transmission is looking for a Shop Hand to join our team at our Florence location. This is a hands on, entry level position and a great opportunity for someone who likes being around cars, doesn't mind getting their hands dirty, and wants a chance to learn the automotive business.
You don't need years of automotive experience. We're much more interested in finding someone who shows up, works hard, pays attention, and is willing to learn.
As a Shop Hand, you'll help with a little bit of everything. Some days you'll be moving vehicles and helping around the shop. Other days you may be cleaning up the property, running for parts, or taking a customer home. The goal is simple: help the team keep the shop clean, organized, and running smoothly.
What You'll Be Doing
No two days will look exactly the same, but some of your responsibilities will include:
- Pulling customer vehicles in and out of the shop
- Moving and organizing vehicles around the property
- Keeping the shop clean, organized, and safe
- Sweeping, taking out trash, and handling general cleanup
- Helping keep tools, equipment, and supplies organized
- Helping technicians when needed
- Unloading and organizing parts, tires, and deliveries
- Picking up parts and supplies when needed
- Taking customers home or to work and picking them up when needed
- Keeping the parking lot, entrances, and outside areas looking good
- Helping with basic yard and property maintenance
- Keeping company vehicles clean
- Running errands between DunRite locations
- Occasionally helping out at another DunRite location
- Pitching in wherever you're needed to help the team
Who We're Looking For
We're not expecting you to walk in knowing everything about cars. We can teach a lot of things. What we're looking for is the kind of person who:
- Shows up on time and can be counted on
- Isn't afraid of hard work
- Sees something that needs to be done and takes care of it
- Can follow directions and pay attention to details
- Takes care when driving and handling someone else's vehicle
- Is friendly and respectful with customers and coworkers
- Doesn't mind working inside or outside
- Is willing to learn
- Wants to grow and take on more responsibility over time
- Has a genuine interest in the automotive industry
Most importantly, we're looking for a person who cares about people, takes pride in their work, and wants to be part of a team.
What You'll Need
- A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- The ability to safely drive different types of customer and company vehicles
- The ability to be on your feet and handle the physical side of the job, including bending, lifting, carrying, and working outside when needed
- Willingness to occasionally travel between DunRite locations
Automotive experience is not required.
If you've been wanting to get into the automotive industry but haven't known where to start, this could be your opportunity.
What Makes DunRite Different?
We're a family owned and operated business that's been serving South Carolina for more than 30 years, and even as we've grown, we still believe people matter.
Our customers matter.
Our employees matter.
Our community matters.
We don't believe in selling people things they don't need. We believe in being honest, doing good work, treating people the right way, and building relationships that last.
That's how this company was built, and that's how we plan to keep growing it.
When you come to work at DunRite, we want you to feel like you're part of the team not just another employee.
What You Can Expect From Us
Family Comes First
We work hard, but we also believe your job should support your life not become your entire life. We offer paid vacation, paid holidays, weekends off, and a workplace that understands that family matters.
You'll Have People to Lean On
Nobody here should feel like they're on an island. Our leadership team is involved and approachable. If you have a question, need help, or want to learn something new, there are people here who will take the time to help you.
We'll Help You Grow
If you come in, work hard, and want to learn, we want to help you get better. That might mean learning more about cars, getting technical training, developing new skills, or eventually moving into a different position within the company. We'd much rather help a good employee grow with us than have to look outside the company every time a position opens up.
You'll Be Treated With Respect
It doesn't matter what your job title is. Good ideas can come from anyone. We expect our team to treat each other with respect, communicate, take responsibility for their work, and help each other out.
About DunRite Automotive & Transmission
DunRite started more than 30 years ago in a small building right here in Florence, South Carolina. The goal back then was pretty simple: treat people honestly and love on them. That hasn't changed. Today, we've grown into a multi location automotive company serving communities across South Carolina. In 2024, we joined forces with Action Transmission in Columbia, bringing together more than 60 years of transmission experience with the full-service automotive repair DunRite is known for. We're proud of how much we've grown, but we're even more proud that we've been able to grow without forgetting where we came from.
Do good work. Be honest. Take care of people.
That's DunRite.
