JOB DESCRIPTION
The Athletic Director/Dean of Student Support is a teacher leader who provides information, resources, training, and support to enhance both student athletics and student development in the Dunkirk City School District. This individual oversees the daily operations of the Athletics Department and supports student success through targeted academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions. The role reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools (Athletic Director) and Director of Secondary Education (Dean) and will have clerical support from CSEA.
COMPENSATION
$10,000 stipend
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Athletic Director (Grades 7-12)
- Oversee all aspects of the Dunkirk City School District athletics program, including scheduling, transportation, supervision, compliance, and budgeting;
- Collaborate with coaches, administrators, students, and parents/guardians to promote athletics as an integral part of the educational experience;
- Recruit, supervise, and evaluate non-DTA athletic coaches in accordance with District policies and procedures;
- Ensure compliance with Board of Education, Section VI, and New York State regulations related to athletics;
- Maintain accurate records of eligibility, physicals, equipment, and athletic finances; and
- Promote a positive image of the District through athletics, encouraging sportsmanship, teamwork, and student growth.
Dean of Student Support (Grades 9-12)
This portion of the position is intentionally broad, allowing the role to be tailored to the skills of the successful candidate. Responsibilities may include:
Behavioral & Alternative Education Support
- Counsel and support students in the Behavior Intervention Classroom (BIC), RISE program, or other alternative education settings;
- Assist students working on credit recovery or those requiring structured support to succeed outside the general education classroom; and
- Provide guidance in building coping strategies, conflict resolution skills, and goal setting.
Academic Support & Intervention
- Facilitate small groups or targeted interventions for students with academic deficiencies;
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop support plans for struggling learners; and
- Monitor academic progress and assist students in meeting graduation requirements.
Advisory & Career Development
- Provide elements of academic and career planning, formerly carried out by the Academic Dean, such as college/career readiness, goal setting, and scholarship exploration; and
- Organize small-group sessions or workshops on study skills, time management, and future planning.
Family & Community Engagement
- Act as a point of contact for caregivers regarding student support needs;
- Partner with community agencies and service providers to connect students with resources; and
- Strengthen the home/school connection to improve attendance, behavior, and academic outcomes.
School Climate & Student Growth
- Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment;
- Model and promote positive relationships among students, staff, and the broader school community; and
- Serve as a member of student support and improvement teams, contributing to problem-solving and decision-making processes.
Other
Perform other roles and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and/or designee.
Salary : $47,000 - $70,500
