What are the responsibilities and job description for the Power Electronics Engineeer position at Dune Nets, Inc.?
Job Title: Power Electronics & Systems Engineer (Hybrid/Off-Grid)
Location: Howell, MI (HQ) | Travel: ~25% (Pecos, TX)
Type: Full-Time / Startup Environment
The Mission
We are seeking a versatile Power Electronics Engineer to lead the design and integration of a cutting-edge power system. You will be responsible for coupling high-density containerized computing and industrial equipment loads with our off-grid, DC-coupled hybrid solar PV Battery (BESS) installations in Reeves County, TX.
This isn't just a "desk job." You will tackle the unique challenges of high THD profiles and extreme field conditions, ensuring our systems are not only theoretically sound but also constructible and maintainable in the Texas heat.
The engineer will design and develop power electronic circuits, ensure the proper functioning of electrical systems, and perform rigorous testing to validate system performance. Responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams, troubleshooting issues, optimizing hardware designs, and ensuring adherence to safety and performance standards. The role requires hands-on involvement in all stages of the product lifecycle, from concept to implementation and deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- System Architecture: Design holistic power systems including inverters, BESS integration, trunkline wiring, and grounding schemes.
- Power Quality & Mitigation: Analyze specific load profiles of mining/edge compute gear to specify galvanic isolation and power filtration systems to handle significant THD.
- Engineering for Reality: Develop designs focused on constructability and maintainability for our field crews in Pecos.
- Vendor Selection: Identify and specify high-performance components (inverters, filters, switchgear) that can survive off-grid, high-demand cycles.
- Field Support: Travel to Reeves County (approx. 1 week per month) to oversee commissioning, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
Qualifications & Traits
- Deep Technical Roots: Whether through a formal EE degree at a Bachelor's or higher level, or extensive "shirting-up" experience, you must understand power electronics engineering at a deep level (circuit design, PWM, thermal management, magnetics, etc.).
- The "Startup" Mindset: Eager, good-natured, and diligent. We move fast and need someone who thrives in an evolving environment and is willing to put in the hours to hit stretch targets.
- Practicality: You design for the person holding the wrench, not just the simulation software.
- Proficiency in Electronic Engineering and Electrical Engineering principles
- Experience with Circuit Design and Electronics
- Strong skills in Testing and troubleshooting electronic systems
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with renewable energy systems is a plus
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hands-on environment
- General knowledge of NEC safety standards and regulatory compliance for electrical systems
- Compliance: Ability to pass a standard background check and drug screen.
