Director of Finance
Duncan Golf Management | Reno, Nevada
$150,000–$175,000 annually | Full-time | On-site, Monday–Friday
Lead the department. Own the financial picture. Help guide the business.
Duncan Golf Management is a family-owned golf and hospitality company with more than $20 million in annual revenue and operations across Northern Nevada and Northern California.
We’re looking for an experienced Director of Finance who wants meaningful responsibility, direct access to ownership, and the opportunity to strengthen how a business operates.
This is a hands-on leadership position overseeing two staff accountants and our Director of Human Resources. You will bring direction and accountability to the department, deliver dependable financial information, and help ownership understand what the numbers mean—and what actions to take.
Within agreed expectations, you will have the authority to implement processes, manage your team, and improve the finance function. We want someone who recognizes what needs attention, proposes a solution, and follows through.
What you will own:
- Department leadership: Establish clear responsibilities, deadlines, and standards. Coach the team, address performance gaps, and ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
- Monthly financial reporting: Own the monthly close and deliver complete financial statements with a concise narrative explaining results, significant variances, concerns, and recommended actions.
- Cash management: Maintain a clear view of cash balances, upcoming obligations, and projected cash needs.
- Accounting operations: Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and the accuracy of financial records across properties and entities.
- Budgeting and forecasting: Partner with ownership and operating leaders to develop practical budgets, update forecasts, and evaluate performance.
- Financial controls and processes: Identify weaknesses, strengthen controls, and build consistent procedures that support reliable reporting.
- Business guidance: Help property and department leaders understand their financial results and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
- HR oversight and coordination: Provide leadership to the Director of Human Resources and ensure effective coordination among finance, HR, and payroll.
- Ownership communication: Work directly with ownership, communicate issues early, and bring clear recommendations to the table.
What Success will look like:
In your first 90 days, establish clear direction for the department: who owns each responsibility, when work is due, how it is reviewed, and how issues are resolved.
From there, build a dependable reporting rhythm that gives ownership timely financials, useful explanations, and confidence in the department’s work.
What you bring:
- Demonstrated experience leading an accounting department, including direct responsibility for staff performance and monthly financial reporting.
- Strong accounting knowledge and the ability to review, question, and explain financial results.
- A record of improving processes and following projects through to completion.
- The willingness to work directly in the details while maintaining a clear view of the overall business.
- Sound judgment, discretion, and the confidence to raise concerns respectfully.
- Clear communication with owners, accounting staff, and operating managers.
- Strong spreadsheet skills and proficiency with accounting systems.
- Consistent on-site presence and dependable availability during established Monday–Friday office hours.
- Experience with multiple locations or entities, hospitality, golf, or another service-based business is helpful. Prior experience successfully leading an accounting department is essential.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual base salary of $150,000–$175,000, based on experience and qualifications.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage. Life Insurance Policy covered by DGM.
- 401(k) with employer contribution or match.
- Paid vacation and holidays.
- Golf privileges and employee discounts.
