Two Year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology

Neuropsychology at Duly Health and Care

The Neuropsychological & Psychological Services department provides comprehensive outpatient evaluations to patients in the Chicagoland area. The office is conveniently located in Romeoville, IL and services patients from all the surrounding suburbs. There are currently three adult neuropsychologists and two testing psychologists.

Referrals for neuropsychological evaluations are primarily received neurology, primary care, and behavioral health (including psychiatrists, psychiatric providers, therapists, and health psychologists). Depending on fellow interests, rotations in the health psychology clinic conducting pre-surgical bariatric and spinal cord stimulator evaluations may be available. Neuropsychologists frequently consult with the referral sources to clarify referral question, ensure good continuity of care, and provide psychoeducation about neurocognitive, psychiatric, and behavioral disorders.

The Neuropsychology Fellowship Program

Core Competencies have been denied in the following areas:

Ethical and Legal Standards, Professional Values and Attitudes, Communication and Interpersonal Skills, Individual and Cultural Diversity, Assessment, Intervention, Consultation, Clinical Supervision/Teaching, and Research/Program Evaluation.

Training emphasis is placed on timely and efficient neuropsychological assessment. It is anticipated that the fellow will spend 50-75% of their time gaining clinical experiences and the remaining time is dedicated to didactics, research, and elective educational opportunities geared to tailoring the individual’s education and training needs.

General Program Features:

The fellow will have the opportunity to observe, interview, and study individuals presenting with focal and diffuse brain disease, neurodegenerative conditions, neurodevelopmental injury and abnormality, and psychiatric conditions and other episodic and chronic conditions. The goal is for the fellow to learn the basics of a neurological examination, neuroimaging, and other neurodiagnostic techniques to understand the affective, cognitive, and personality changes that commonly occur with neurological conditions and those that mimic neurological conditions. The fellow will learn to integrate this data into an integrated case formulation of the patient’s neurobehavioral condition and likely course to establish recommendations and a treatment plan.

Program Requirements and Options

Program Evaluation/Research Project: In addition to gaining clinical experience, fellows will be expected to demonstrate competence in research by completing a program development, research, or program evaluation project. Activities that may satisfy this requirement include a publication of a paper, book chapter, or case report, the presentation of a paper or findings at a conference.

Training in Supervision: The fellow may also have the opportunity to develop skills as a clinical supervisor through tiered supervision of a practicum student.

Didactics: There are weekly mandatory didactics in which the fellow will be asked to complete multiple didactic presentations, participate in journal club, and case conference.

Supervision and Didactics

Required:

Weekly 1-hour Supervision with the Training Director: To discuss cases, case conceptualization, professional development, and much more.

Weekly 1-hour Supervision with the Rotation Supervisor: To discuss cases, case conceptualization, professional development and much more.

Weekly 1-hour Didactics: Didactics will occur alongside the practicum students. Didactic topics will include, but are not limited to: Interviewing & Report Writing, Neurobehavioral Syndromes, Neuroanatomy, History of Neuropsychology, Psychometrics, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Autism, Alzheimer's Disease, Vascular Disease & Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia, Movement Disorders, Traumatic Brain Injury, Autoimmune Conditions, Spinal Cord Injuries, Epilepsy, Tumors, Toxic/Metabolic Conditions, Infectious Diseases, Sleep, Capacity, etc…

Weekly 1-hour Case Conference/Journal Club: This is a weekly hour set aside for all trainees and staff to present on a case to model the fact finding method used during the board certification process. This hour can also be used as a journal club or as a group supervision for the practicum students. This will allow the fellow to gain experience in vertical supervision.

Monthly Grand Rounds: The behavioral health grand rounds occur monthly. All staff and fellows are required to attend. The fellow will also be required to present on their project during one of the grand rounds.

Qualifications

  • Completed an APA or CPA accredited doctoral training program in clinical psychology/neuropsychology
  • Completed an APA or CPA accredited internship in clinical psychology
  • Strong background in clinical neuropsychology
  • Interest in collaborative, interdisciplinary clinical work
  • Passion for excellence

Additional Information For Applicants-

  • This is a full-time, 40-hour weekly position
  • Fellows will be working primarily at the Romeoville office, under the supervision of licensed clinical psychologists.
