Pay Range I-A: $1,867-$2,100 per week, Benefits

Summary:
Duluth Public Schools is seeking an individual to plan, implement and administer all aspects of the Indian Education programs in order to achieve optimum educational and personal development of Indian students. Serves as the principal liaison between the school district, the Indian Parent Committee and the community. Supports American Indian students' education by incorporating community-based cultural values.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Degree Required: A bachelor's degree in education, Indian Studies, social science, or a closely-related field is required.
  • Required Work Experience in Addition to Formal Education/Training: A minimum of three (3) years' experience working with Native American students at various grade levels, collaborating with students, families, and colleagues from a variety of ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. Must be knowledgeable of Native American Indian culture, history, values, and communities.
  • Required Supervisory Experience: Requires at least one year of supervisory experience within a school district or social service agency, specifically working with the American Indian community, parents, and students of the same or similar heritage.

Knowledge Requirements:
  • Comprehensive understanding of diverse American Indian cultures, histories, traditional values, and contemporary issues.
  • In-depth knowledge of Federal and State laws impacting American Indian education (e.g., Indian Education Act, Johnson O'Malley, FERPA).
  • Familiarity with Tribal programs and resources serving American Indian people, especially those relevant to Duluth andsurrounding areas.
  • Strong knowledge of educational best practices for American Indian youth achievement, cultural identity, and well-being.
  • Understanding of culturally responsive teaching methodologies and trauma-informed practices applicable to American Indian students.

Skill Requirements:
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills, including grant writing and comprehensive reporting.
  • Advanced interpersonal and human relations skills for collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in program planning, implementation, and evaluation, project management, and outcome assessment.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills to effectively guide, evaluate, and develop a team.
  • Budget development and management, including grant fiscal administration and compliance.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and problem-solving skills for complex situations.
  • Proficiency with modern office software (MS Office Suite, Google Workspace).

Medical/Prescription Drug Plan with Health Reimbursement Arrangement
  • Single Coverage District pays 100% of premium (FREE) contributes $2,612.50 into HRA annually
  • Family Coverage District pays 75% of premium (25% employee contribution) contributes $5,250 into HRA annually

Dental Plan
  • Single Coverage District pays 100% of Basic premium (FREE)
  • Family Coverage District pays 25% of Premium

Life Insurance
  • District provides minimum of $50,000 of life insurance at no cost, employee may purchase supplemental life insurance

Long Term Disability
  • District-provided at no cost to employee

Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Employees may elect to contribute on a pre-tax basis to Health Flexible Spending Accounts and Dependent Care Accounts

Retirement
  • The District contributes 7.5% of your total salary in the Public Employees Retirement Association) pension plan.
  • Employees may also elect to participate in Tax-Shelter Annuity options.

Time Off
  • Each bargaining unit contract defines time off provisions such as holidays, sick/personal leave, vacation, etc.
