Job Purpose:
Provides leadership and management of a school that is focused on student learning and achievement, relationships and communication, and efficient operations. Promote the success of each student by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community. Supervises certified and non-certified staff, including providing for performance evaluation and staff development.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid New Mexico Administrative Certificate or evidence of eligibility to be certified by the New Mexico Public Education Department.
- Master’s Degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum and Instruction ore related field.
- At least five years teaching experience.
- Preferred experience as an Assistant Principal or Principal is required.
- Demonstrated experience in diverse, rural education settings.
- Valid New Mexico Driver’s License.
- Demonstrates leadership qualities.
- Knowledge of budget or experience involving school administration.
- Other qualifications determined to be necessary by the Board of Education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated background or experience in school leadership, including supervision/management and/or teamwork.
- Budget administration.
- Technology used as an instructional tool.
- Technology applications.
- Background in coaching professionals, public speaking, developing student specific interventions, curriculum and instruction, special education and language acquisition programs.
SUPERVISES:
Staff members assigned to the site and students during the school day and extracurricular activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruits, interviews, and recommends staff for employment.
- Responsibility for student achievement.
- Weekly classroom visits.
- Shares and models effective teaching strategies.
- Provides feedback to classroom teachers on performance and arranges for remedial assistance.
- Enforces grade level standards.
- Provides opportunity for enrichment and intervention.
- Creates a school culture for learning and envisions and enables instructional and auxiliary programs, plans programs
- Encourages differentiated instruction for all learners and commitment of learner objectives through the means of MLSS Layers of intervention.
- Frequently monitors student progress.
- Conducts and uses assessment data to guide instruction.
- Provides time for Professional Learning Communities (PLCs.)
- Uses academic support systems.
- Ensures training of all regular staff and interagency staff on skills for collaboration, teaming, consulting, and conflict resolution.
- Develops personal growth plans for self and all staff.
- Develops and evaluates the performance of staff.
- Uses and models use of technology.
- Acts as public advocate for school, district, and public education.
- Responsive to parents and community.
- Mobilizes the appropriate staff in creating an appropriate instructional and learning environment.
- Creates a welcoming climate and culture.
- Markets school programs.
- Works in partnership with school councils/leaders create visions, values and goals.
- Ensures school facilities are safe, secure, and clean.
- Supports and attends extracurricular activities as needed.
- Develop and conduct presentations for parents, students, and staff regarding issuers affect students’ educational progress.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, school correspondence, and student/staff policy handbooks.
- Develops, plans, and evaluates school programs and curriculum.
- Performs functions from written and oral instructions and from observing and listening to others.
