As theResearch Data Tech I/ Survey Manager, you'll be a vital part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team that supports students from diverse backgrounds as they pursue careers in data science.
You'll lead a groundbreaking study of Ghanaian immigrants living in the United States, helping shape the future of diaspora research through innovative sampling and data collection methods.

The Survey Manager will oversee the implementation of a quantitative telephone survey of approximately 900 Ghanaian immigrants in the U.S., using the Network Sampling with Memory (NSM) method. You'll manage a team of 5-10 interviewers and ensure high-quality data collection, field operations, and budget oversight.
What You'll Do:

  • Survey Design & Preparation
    • Finalize survey protocols and training materials
    • Develop documentation including manuals, consent scripts, and call protocols
    • Set up and test CATI systems
  • Fieldwork Management
    • Recruit, train, and supervise interviewers
    • Monitor performance and ensure response goals are met
    • Manage sample assignments and call schedules
  • Data Quality & Sampling
    • Run NSM algorithm in R to generate samples
    • Maintain tracking databases and monitor data accuracy
    • Troubleshoot recruitment and performance issues
  • Budget & Resource Management
    • Manage survey budget and track expenditures
    • Ensure cost-effective resource use
  • Reporting & Communication
    • Provide weekly progress and financial reports
    • Document field experiences and contribute to data cleaning
What You Bring:
  • Master's degree in survey research, social sciences, statistics, or equivalent experience
  • Experience managing large-scale surveys, especially with immigrant populations
  • Proficiency in R, Stata, and Qualtrics
  • Strong project management and communication skills
  • Familiarity with CATI systems and ethical research protocols

This is a 12-month contract position with hybrid flexibility and regular coordination with a U.S.-based research team. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Anticipated Pay Range:

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00 to USD $26.49. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
