As an Echocardiography Technician - Research, you will serve as a key contributor within the Core Laboratory, ensuring the accuracy, quality, and integrity of echocardiographic data used in clinical research studies. You'll partner with multidisciplinary teams to support study execution, protocol compliance, image analysis, sonographer training, and data submission activities that drive meaningful scientific discoveries.

What You'll Do:

Core Laboratory Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with research leadership, study sponsors, and project teams to perform protocol-specific echocardiographic measurements and image analysis.
  • Ensure study data meets protocol requirements and contractual obligations through close partnership with data collection and analysis teams.
  • Participate in project meetings, sponsor calls, and study planning activities to support ongoing and future research initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain study-specific sonographer measurement guidelines and reference materials.
  • Assist with Independent Image Review setup and contribute to the development and refinement of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Perform echocardiographic measurements, interpret image data, and provide technical guidance to sonographers.
  • Compile, organize, and prepare imaging data for analysis and reporting to study sponsors.

Research Team Support

  • Monitor compliance of imaging data with study protocols, worksheets, and quality standards.
  • Complete protocol-required measurements and documentation for assigned studies.
  • Coordinate echocardiogram scheduling and study-related imaging activities with sonographers and research teams.
  • Deliver initial and ongoing training to sonographers on protocol-specific imaging techniques and requirements.
  • Upload and manage imaging data using approved research platforms and systems.
  • Support study operations through scheduling coordination, billing updates, de-identification processes, and resource management.
  • Schedule, perform, and submit certification echocardiograms in accordance with study protocols.
  • Conduct virtual training sessions related to core laboratory processes and data management systems.
  • Review study protocols and update technical instructions to ensure alignment with research requirements.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

What You'll Bring:

Required Qualifications

  • Experience performing echocardiographic imaging and measurements in a clinical or research environment.
  • Knowledge of echocardiography protocols, imaging standards, and quality assurance practices.
  • Ability to analyze imaging data and maintain accuracy in data collection and reporting.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple research projects and deadlines.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with research-related imaging platforms and data management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting cardiovascular clinical research studies.
  • Familiarity with image review processes, study protocol development, and sonographer training.
  • Experience working with electronic imaging repositories and data upload platforms.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $35.15 to USD $57.99. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
