Toolmaker Technician

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE:

The Toolmaker Technician will be required to assemble, repair, adjust, groom, maintain, and retrofit custom plastic weld tooling. Installation & repairs will be done both in house and at the customers’ facilities. Individual will provide product and tool engineering with documentation of repairs made to customer equipment in the form of service reports. Individuals will also make recommendations for design or manufacturing process changes when the root cause of a tool failure appears to be attributable to Dukane’s design or manufacturing processes. Will support the Corporate Quality Policy, and using TQM concepts, principles, and tools, will make continuous improvements in work processes.

POSITION FUNCTIONS:

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

· Assemble vibration, hotplate, hot gas and laser tooling per print from engineering.

· Perform technical support, service, repair, maintenance, and retrofit of all Dukane vibration and custom welding products internally and externally at customer’s facilities. This may require overnight travel, and international travel.

· Evaluate engineering’s tooling components for manufacturing feasibility prior to release.

· Ensure department order and cleanliness are maintained by all.

· Machining of tooling segments to facilitate fitting, assembly and repairs.

· Will complete all paperwork/computer work associated with technical support, service, repair, maintenance and services provided, including technical service reports, expense reports, marked-up engineering drawings, etc.

· Provide input to the I.A.S. Division on product failures and make suggestions for corrective action and product improvement.

· Continuously strive to improve customer satisfaction.

· Maintain a flow of relevant information between the customers, Large Tooling & Machine Build Manager, sales, engineering, and the I.A.S. Division relative to solving customer tooling & equipment problems.

· Load tooling in lab equipment, Adjust tooling to align customer parts and perform tooling run-offs with customers.

· Assist other departments when necessary.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Machining, Blueprint reading, and Trade school are requirements. Alternately, four (4) years of related experience can be substituted for the education requirement. Strong mechanical aptitude is a plus.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Must posses at least five years toolmaking and machining experience with working knowledge of proper fixture build techniques. Must be capable of providing technical equipment service and support on systems that use PLC controls. Molding Applications based work a plus. Solid verbal, written and computer communication skills is a must. Experience in a customer service environment preferred. Multi-lingual, especially Spanish speaking, is a plus.
