Position Overview
Under general supervision, the MC&A Statistician provides technical oversight and ensures rigorous compliance with nuclear material measurement controls. Operating in accordance with DOE Order 474.2A, this position is responsible for ensuring that all nuclear material accountability measurements are accurate, defensible, and fully compliant with DOE Orders, contract requirements, DOE-approved Plans, and implementing procedures. The Statistician applies to evaluate measurement systems, establish measurement uncertainty, and monitor statistical control programs to safeguard and account for nuclear materials.
Functional:
- Monitor routine nuclear material accountability measurements to ensure they are performed using approved, qualified methods and equipment.
- Verify routine calibration records and measurement control files to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Analyze routine measurement performance and statistical control data, identifying trends and shifts requiring corrective action.
- Develop updates and routine revisions to measurement control plans and procedures in coordination with site management.
- Coordinate the gathering of data from laboratory, NDA, and analytical chemistry personnel to support measurement system alignments.
- Execute internal assessments and self-assessments by analyzing documentation and evidence for audit preparation.
- Calculate data needed for ID evaluations and SEID assessments.
- Evaluate raw measurement data and technical reports for statistical validity and consistency before final approval.
- Implement improvements to current measurement methodologies based on research and identified performance gaps.
- Manage departmental statistical tasks, maintain logs, and provide technical guidance to support daily team operations.
Competencies:
- Demonstrates the ability to monitor measurement system stability using trend analysis, control charting, and hypothesis testing.
- Demonstrates the ability to calculate and evaluate measurement uncertainties, limits of error, and systematic biases to ensure defensible reporting.
- Demonstrates the ability to interpret and apply requirements of Department of Energy (DOE) Order 474.2A to ensure facility-wide accountability.
