Job Description

Position Overview

Under minimal supervision, manages MCSA personnel dosimetry program in compliance with regulatory, DOELAP, and programmatic requirements. The Dosimetry Program Manager oversees the measurement and calculation of radiation doses to ensure worker exposure remains below regulatory limits and as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). Responsibilities include leading dosimetry staff, directing data analysis and investigations, and ensuring all radiation safety activities comply with applicable standards and procedures. Specific assignments may include additional duties supporting one or more functional areas, as required.

Functional:

  • Serve as the DOELAP (Department of Energy Laboratory Accreditation Program) technical lead in the context of DOE-STD-1095/DOE-STD-1112 and maintains the DOELAP application to include related communications.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable standards and regulations. Oversees dosimetry operations to meet DOE, NRC, and DOELAP requirements and maintain accurate program documentation.
  • Interfaces with procurement and manages contracts for dosimetry processors. Serves as liaison with vendors to ensure contract deliverables and technical standards are met.
  • Approves formal communication with dosimeter vendors. Reviews and authorizes correspondence to ensure technical accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensures corrective actions are completed. Tracks and verifies closure of findings.
  • Ensures tracking metrics are current. Reviews key performance indicators and provides regular reports on exposure trends and program performance.
  • Approves Radiological Worker (RW) Exemptions and Tour Group requests. Reviews and authorizes requests to ensure ALARA and safety requirements are met.
  • Approves changes to dosimeter exchange frequencies. Evaluates operational data and approves adjustments consistent with regulatory guidance.
  • Imposes Radiological Worker restrictions. Applies administrative controls when exposure limits or procedural requirements are exceeded.
  • Ensures exposure limit notifications are completed. Reviews and approves notifications for workers nearing administrative or regulatory dose limits.
  • Participates in bioassay list generation.
  • Ensures dosimeter data are approved and validated.
  • Provides concurrence for dose analysis results ≥10 mrem and for changed dose assignments. Resolves contested dose assignments.
  • Conducts proficiency evaluations and conducts or assists in needed assessments.
  • Other tasks as assigned and provides support for related radiation protection activities and projects.
Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Health Physics, Radiological Science, Nuclear Engineering, or related field. 
  • 10 years of operational health physics experience, 5 years dosimetry experience and 3 years of experience in the DOE/NNSA complex, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
