Job Title Duet, Van Driver Hours Required 40 Job Description and Hours The Van Driver is responsible for the safe and dependable operation of vehicles operated by ENHSA in all weather and traffic conditions. The Van Driver will provide safe, comfortable and timely transportation to persons served by ENHSA, and use established reporting procedures. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis. 2. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, with no major violations (including DUI) in the last five years and no more than three moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the last three years. Must report all moving violations, on or off duty, where a citation or ticket is issued to transportation management within the next working day. 3. Must not appear on the APS/CPS Registry for abuse/neglect, or have been dismissed from prior employment due to suspected abuse/neglect. Must be able to pass a criminal background check. 4. Must meet and maintain physical requirements of the position which include: a. 70 pound lifting requirement b. 20/40 actual or corrected vision c. Hearing test of 40 dB with or without hearing aid d. Must be able to safely operate the vehicle and perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. 5. Communicates both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner. Will complete standard communication forms and reports. 6. Maintains effective and positive working relationships with staff, persons in service and the general public. 7. Adheres to all route schedules as designed by the Director or designee. Maintains a timely schedule of pickup and delivery of persons in service. 8. Provides assistance as required to both ambulatory and wheelchair bound persons boarding or debarking the vehicle properly using various techniques including lifting, the use of a step stool and the use of a wheelchair lift. 9. Ensures that all ambulatory persons are seated and seat belts are properly used. 10. Regulates heating and ventilation systems for passenger comfort. 11. Maintains order of persons in service while maintaining full control of the vehicle. Will work with residential and vocational staff to assure proper handling of persons in service and use approved behavioral intervention techniques in accordance with all. ENCOR/ENHSA policies and procedures. 12. Must be able to Jump-start a vehicle and perform basic vehicle-maintenance as required by the Daily Vehicle Checklist. 13. Must be knowledgeable and able to comply with local traffic regulations. 14. Must independently exercise common sense regarding daily routine matters and be able to maintain a timely and dependable schedule. 15. Accurately communicate in a professional and timely manner using standard radio protocol, incident reports, run sheets, logs and other departmental forms as required. 16. Must keep van clean and complete other assigned departmental cleaning tasks. 17. Must pass a Basic First Aid/CPR course and be able to administer first aid as required using supplies contained in the First Aid Kit located on the ENHSA van. Must pass all Agency mandatory training requirements. 18. Must be able to operate fire extinguisher located in the ENHSA vehicle. OTHER JOB DUTIES: 1. Must have knowledge of streets and highways within the ENHSA five county area. 2. Must be familiar with consumer specific behaviors and medical issues. 3. Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Must be at least 19 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. 2. One year paid professional driving experience preferred. 3. Six months human service experience preferred. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Must have safe driving skills and exercise defensive driving techniques. 2. Maintains effective and positive working relationships with staff, persons in service and the general public. 3. Must be able to operate the following equipment: a. 15-passenger van b. Two-way cellular telephone c. Wheelchair lift d. Battery charger/cables PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Must have 20/40 actual or corrected vision. 2. Must meet hearing test of 40 dB with or without hearing aid. 3. Must be able to lift at least 70 pounds. 4. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, walk, sit, stand, climb, push, carry, and grasp. 5. Must be able to enter and exit van frequently and be able to turn body/head to observe surroundings. 6. Will be exposed to and drive in all weather and traffic conditions. PROHIBITED PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES: 1. Verbal abuse: Screaming, swearing, derogatory name calling, mimicking, cruel teasing, telling lies, taunting, or any other verbal activity which is demeaning to the individual or could reasonably be expected to damage self-respect. 2. Corporal punishment: Spanking, slapping, hitting, or in any other way applying a painful stimulus to the body as punishment or as a consequence for behavior (such as abusively using force in wiping a person's mouth or hands). 3. Persons in service shall not discipline other persons in service, except as part of an organized self-government program that is conducted in accordance with written policy.
