What are the responsibilities and job description for the Land Technician position at Dudley Land Company?
Land Specialist
Dudley Land Company | Katy, TX (On-site) Full-time
If you know your way around a run sheet, can spot a title defect before it becomes a problem, and take pride in getting the ownership exactly right, we want to talk!
We're looking for a Land Specialist to join our Land Department in Katy, TX. You'll own the title and ownership records on active projects, build the abstracts and run sheets our project teams rely on, and work directly with owners and lessors to clear up the defects that hold deals back.
What you'll actually do
Why Dudley
We've spent 45 years doing land work across every major basin, and we've built our reputation on results, not on telling everyone how good we are. You'd be joining a team that knows the counties, the courthouses, and the people who make deals happen, and that backs its landmen with integrated services most firms can't match.
This is on-site at our Katy office (817 Avenue A, Katy, TX 77493) and reports to our Prospect Manager(s).

What you'll actually do
- Build and maintain title and ownership records. Lease checks, availability checks, ownership status checks, and the reports that come out of them.
- Prepare abstracts and run sheets. Compile the images and copies, review them, and turn out a finished product a Prospect Manager can trust.
- Run down and cure title defects. Communicate directly with lessors, landowners, and mineral owners to resolve issues, and keep your PM and PC in the loop on title and lease status the whole way.
- Manage the data. Data entry, evaluating sorts from the database, and report prep that supports the broader project team.
- Coordinate with your Prospect Manager(s). Troubleshoot, plan, track leasing progress, and jump on whatever the project needs next.
- Represent Dudley well. With clients, landmen, and the associations we're part of. Quality, service, and professionalism aren't poster words here, they're how we keep clients for decades.
- 3–5 years as a land technician or analyst in oil & gas
- Bachelor's degree preferred; relevant certifications and experience can stand in for it
- CPLTA certification strongly preferred; NALTA membership a plus
- Comfortable with land software, Microsoft Office, and keeping digital files organized and findable
- Sharp with numerical accuracy and document flow; you double-check because you want to, not because someone told you to
- Strong written and verbal communication; you can talk to a mineral owner and a project manager in the same afternoon and both walk away clear
- Able to juggle multiple assignments and hit deadlines without letting accuracy slip
