The Executive Director (ED) at the duCret Center of Art is the chief executive and visionary leader responsible for the overall strategic, artistic, and operational success of the longest running art school in New Jersey. As we celebrate our centennial anniversary, we are looking for a dynamic leader to guide this institution into the next 100 years. duCret is a unique and special place which combines a vibrant artistic community with a keen sense of history - our 130 year old building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Role Summary

The Executive Director will lead the Center’s mission to provide space for creativity and exploration while ensuring financial sustainability and expanding our presence as an education and cultural center for the community and region. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED serves as the primary spokesperson and passionate advocate for the Center, fostering an inclusive environment that supports creative expression for all ages. This role balances high-level strategic planning with day-to-day management of administrative, operational and programming staff.

Core Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Governance:
  • Partner with the Board to develop and execute multi-year strategic growth plans.
  • Provide regular updates to the Board on fiscal health, programmatic impact, and operational goals.
  • Fundraising & External Relations:
  • Lead comprehensive fundraising strategies, including major gifts, grants, sponsorships, and capital campaigns.
  • Leverage duCret’s unique role/assets as an Arts School, Cultural Ctr. & National Historic Site
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, civic leaders, and cultural partners.
  • Serve as the public face of the Center to enhance visibility and branding.
  • Financial & Operational Management:
  • Oversee the annual budget, ensuring expenditures align with available resources.
  • Manage the Center’s 27,000-square-foot facility and grounds.
  • Implement financial controls and provide accurate financial reporting.
  • Preservation and stewardship of a historic building situated on 4 acres in the Van Wyck Brooks Historic District.
  • Programming & Team Leadership:
  • Hire and Supervise faculty and staff. Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture.
  • Oversee artistic and educational programming, ensuring excellence and community relevance.
  • Lead marketing and communication efforts to grow audience engagement and enrollment.

This is a part-time position with flexible hours (25 hours per week). Some weekends required

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred; an advanced degree in Arts Administration, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Senior management experience with the operation & management of a non-profit cultural center, art educational institution or government cultural arts organization with an annual budget of $400-500K. Position requires High level management and inter- personal skills with the ability to raise funds from a variety of public & private sources.

Pay: $40,000.00 per year
