JOB DESCRIPTION
The Director of Member Engagement & Corporate Communications is responsible for the strategic oversight and execution of all member services, engagement initiatives, community outreach, and internal and external communications. This includes oversight of office managers and their teams, as well as direct supervision or close coordination with the Cooperative’s communications team. The Director fosters a culture of service and connection, ensuring DREMC’s values and vision are communicated effectively to members, employees, and the broader community.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Supervisory Responsibility — Collaborates with district office managers, communications staff, and cross-functional teams across the Cooperative.
Budget Responsibility — Serves as a public-facing representative of DREMC, building relationships with members, community leaders, and external stakeholders while ensuring consistency in DREMC’s messaging and brand identity.
The Successful Director, Member Engagement & Corporate Communications will:
1. Strategic vision & execution of member services to ensure a responsive, supportive, and high-quality experience, aligning with the organization’s mission, values, and goals.
2. Monitor and enhance member satisfaction through on-going evaluation and feedback mechanisms.
3. Monitor trends to lead innovative efforts and recommend improvements in billing system improvements, service availability, or outreach programs.
4. Develop and execute engagement strategies that build lasting relationships between DREMC and its members.
5. Promote programs that support member education, energy literacy, and cooperative participation.
6. Coordinate efforts to increase member involvement in cooperative initiatives and governance.
7. Plan, coordinate, and represent DREMC at community events, sponsorships, and outreach initiatives.
8. Ensure timely, accurate, and effective messaging to members through various channels (social media, newsletters, website, etc.).
9. Serve as a liaison to local organizations, community leaders, and stakeholders to foster strong partnerships.
10. Identify and promote opportunities for DREMC to demonstrate leadership and support within its service area.
11. Develop and monitor KPIs for member service, ensuring continuous improvement and accountability.
12. Lead the strategic planning and execution of all internal and external communications.
13. Oversee the creation and distribution of newsletters, media releases, digital content, and other public-facing materials.
14. Ensure brand consistency, clarity of message, and alignment with organizational goals across all communication channels.
15. Develop media strategies and manage media relations, including crisis communication and public affairs.
16. Guide internal communication efforts to foster transparency, alignment, and employee engagement across the organization.
17. Represent the Cooperative at community functions, industry meetings, and other public events as needed.
18. Align communications and member services efforts to promote transparency, engagement, and trust among Cooperative members.
19. Ensure consistent branding, voice, and tone in all external member communications for crisis and reputation management.
20. Plans and coordinates activities of the Annual Membership Meeting and all related committees and functions as outlined in the Cooperative’s bylaws.
21. Emergency response coverage as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education — Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, or related field.
Experience — Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in communications, member/customer engagement, or public relations, including at least 3 years in a leadership role. Experience in a cooperative, rural electric system, or nonprofit utility is highly desirable.
Certification/License, etc. - Valid Tennessee Driver’s License or ability to obtain license prior to first day of employment is required. Must be eligible to remain insured as a driver by the Cooperative’s group liability policy for the automotive fleet.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. Proficiency in communication, planning, and brand stewardship. Familiarity with billing and customer information systems. Crisis and reputation management experience. Collaborative, member-focused, and innovative approach. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
