What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optician Technician Assistant position at Dubuque Family Eye Care?
Seeking energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented individual for full-time Ophthalmic Assistant/Optician position. Must be able to communicate well with patients and staff and maintain a positive attitude. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, loves learning new ophthalmic skills, is committed to team success, has excellent communication skills, and is patient-focused.
Ophthalmic Assistant Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Work up of patient including recording of patient medical history, allergies, and medications.
- Perform routine and diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, lensometry, refraction, visual field testing, and OCT imaging.
- ordering contact lenses and teaching I & R's
- Assist the doctors with patient examination, office procedures and treatment.
- Refill prescriptions.
- Promptly respond to messages from patients and other doctors.
- Maintain and clean exam rooms and equipment.
- Assist at front desk when needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Optician Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Recommend the best frames and lenses to meet patients needs.
- Interpret prescriptions written by Optometrists and Ophthalmologists.
- Check patient vision insurance eligibility.
- Pull authorizations/submit insurance claims.
- Calculate insurance co-pays.
- Process spectacle orders.
- Verify glasses and notify patients to dispense.
- Perform adjustments and repairs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Previous experience in Ophthalmology or Optometry preferred. Certification (COA, COT, COMT, ABOC) a plus but not necessary. Candidates that aren't certified will be given all necessary materials to work towards the American Academy of Ophthalmology home study certification. and the American Board of OptIcianry Certification.
