POSITION TITLE: Assistant High School Principal/Registrar - Hempstead High School
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Recruited By: Executive Director of Human Resources
Recommended for Appointment By: Principal and Executive Director of Human Resources
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- MA/MS in Secondary Administration
- Appropriate State Department of Education certification (including evaluator approval)
- High School administrative experience preferred
Teaching experience at secondary level.
JOB GOAL:
Responsible for character development and citizenship of the student body through the implementation of student personnel services. The assistant principal reports directly to the principal and accepts delegated responsibilities related to the instruction, curriculum and school management.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Apply reflective practice with the Standards of School Leaders including: mission, value, and core values; ethics and professional norms; equity and cultural responsiveness; curriculum, instruction, and assessment; community of care and support for students; professional capacity of school personnel; professional community for teachers and staff; meaningful engagement of families and community; operations and management; and school improvement.
- Work with student personnel services including coordinating with counselors and other outside agencies.
- Oversee all student enrollment, withdrawal, and transfer procedures in compliance with district and state.
- Maintain accurate and secure student academic records, transcripts, schedules, grades, and credits.
- Coordinate student data submissions, audits, and reporting requirements with the district and state.
- Building 504 Coordinator.
- Coordinates and manages statewide testing.
- School representative on DCAP team.
- Partner with parents to find solutions and strategies to support student growth.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with parents/guardians regarding student data, schedules, and graduation requirements.
- Support equitable access to programs and services for all students.
- Apply tiered school-wide approach to discipline.
- Recommend secretaries to hire and evaluate secretaries. Provide staff development.
- Evaluate assigned teachers with Districts evaluation procedures.
- Monitor the system of attendance and recordkeeping.
- Supervise the lunch program daily and the building during the day
- Act as the administrative representative in district level special education meetings and IEP meetings.
- Serve on various building action teams.
- Provide administrative involvement and leadership with building and District committee work.
- Share in the supervision of school activities and events out of the school day.
- Support the mission of the School District and Hempstead High School.
- Support the comprehensive school plan.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
216-day contract beginning approximately July 23, 2026. Salary: competitive and commensurate with education and experience. An attractive fringe benefit package is included.
