Overview
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented HCV/Public Housing Program Assistant to support both the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program and Public Housing operations. This position requires strong knowledge of HUD regulations, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to provide high-quality administrative and program support. Duties
- HCV / Section 8 Program Support (Approx. 75%)
- Conduct applicant intake, gather documentation, verify eligibility, and enter applications into housing software.
- Assist with annual and interim recertifications, income and asset verification, and rent calculation per HUD standards.
- Schedule and coordinate HQS inspections: move-in, move-out, annual, re-inspections, and special inspections.
- Assist with briefings, voucher issuance, and participant follow-up.
- Process and track RFTAs, including rent reasonableness and comparables.
- Maintain accurate files and ensure compliance with HUD and agency policies.
- Communicate professionally with applicants, participants, landlords, and the public.
- Support with transfers, move-ins, move-outs, port-ins, and port-outs.
Public Housing Program Support (Approx. 25%)
- Assist with applications, intake, and eligibility verification.
- Support annual recertification preparation, including income verification and rent calculation.
- Conduct site visits and inspections (move-in, move-out, annual, housekeeping) and document results.
- Maintain tenant files and ensure file compliance.
- Assist the Property Manager with tenant communication, leasing, and administrative file management.
- Process work orders and track notices, documentation, and follow-up.
General Administrative & Customer Service Duties
- Provide excellent customer service in-person, by phone, and via email.
- Handle calls, walk-ins, mail, and reception duties as needed.
- Prepare correspondence, notices, reports, and meeting minutes for both HCV/PH as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow HUD, Fair Housing, and agency policies
Qualifications
- Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3–5 years of experience in Public Housing, Section 8, or affordable housing administration.
- Strong understanding of HUD regulations and program requirements.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and housing software.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Preferred
- Experience with PH/Section 8 software (Horizon, Tenmast, HAB, Yardi, MRI, etc.).
- Knowledge of Fair Housing laws, HQS requirements, and HUD forms.
- Experience in Section 8 Administration and/or property management.
