Overview
The DuBois Area School District is accepting applications for the position of Head Coach – Boys Varsity Tennis for the 2026 spring season. We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and student-centered leader who will guide our varsity tennis program in alignment with district values and expectations, including our athletic department philosophy of “Standards Over Shortcuts.”
DuBois competes at the AAA level in District 9, as a member of the District 9 Central League within the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA).
Program Leadership & Culture
- Leading the program in accordance with the DuBois Area School District’s mission and athletic values.
- Promoting sportsmanship, accountability, character development, and competitive excellence.
- Creating a positive, inclusive team environment for student-athletes of varying skill levels.
Coaching & Player Development
- Planning, organizing, and supervising all practices, matches, and program-related activities.
- Managing lineups, match strategy, and individual growth plans for players.
- Teaching fundamental and advanced tennis skills, strategies, and match preparation.
- Providing instruction tailored to varsity-level athletes while supporting developmental needs.
Program Operations
- Coordinating with the Athletic Director on scheduling, facility use, equipment, and transportation.
- Ensuring compliance with all PIAA rules, District 9 regulations, school district policies, and academic eligibility standards.
- Maintaining proper care of district equipment and inventory.
- Communicating clearly with athletes, parents, staff, and administration.
Qualifications
- Prior coaching experience (varsity, junior varsity, or youth-level tennis).
- Ability to model and reinforce the department’s core values.
- Strong technical understanding of the sport of tennis.
- Experience building positive relationships with student-athletes.
- High integrity, strong communication skills, and a commitment to player development.
PIAA Coaching Requirements (Must Be Completed Prior to Coaching)
All candidates must meet PIAA coaching compliance requirements, including:
Required Certifications
- PA State Criminal Record Check (Act 34)
- PA Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151)
- FBI Federal Criminal History (Act 114)
- Mandated Reporter Training (Act 126)
- Arrest/Conviction Report (Act 24/82)
- School Health physical/TB test (as applicable)
Required Trainings & Courses (PIAA/NFHS)
- NFHS Concussion in Sports Course
- NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Course
- NFHS Heat Illness Prevention Course
- NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course (or equivalent approved by PIAA)
- CPR/AED Certification (through recognized providers; must remain current)
