Duties
- Assist patients in selecting eyeglass frames and lenses that meet their needs, preferences, and prescriptions.
- Take precise measurements for lens fitting, including pupillary distance and frame adjustments.
- Educate patients on proper eyewear care, lens options, and optical health best practices.
- Prepare and process optical orders using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic or similar platforms.
- Maintain accurate medical records, including documentation of prescriptions, vital signs, and relevant medical history.
- Support laboratory processes by verifying lens specifications and ensuring quality standards are met.
- Collaborate with ophthalmology professionals to understand complex cases involving pediatrics or senior care.
- Manage retail sales transactions efficiently while providing excellent customer service in a retail environment.
- Uphold HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient confidentiality during all interactions and record handling.
- Assist with inventory management, including stocking optical supplies and retail merchandise.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmology principles, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to eye health.
- Experience with optical equipment, laboratory procedures, and aseptic techniques for safe handling of lenses and frames.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or other healthcare software for medical records management.
- Ability to interpret prescriptions accurately and apply medical coding for billing purposes.
- Excellent sales skills combined with retail math proficiency to optimize product presentation and profitability.
- Understanding of vital signs assessment relevant to senior care or general health monitoring.
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance standards to ensure patient privacy at all times.
- Experience working in clinic settings or ophthalmology practices is highly desirable.
