What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cutting Set Up Operator position at Du-Co Ceramics Company?
Primary Function of the Job: To provide for the efficient operation of the cutting department in accordance with established procedures.
Must demonstrate the following:
- Ability to set up and operate all cutting department equipment with minimum direction from Cutting Set Up A to meet production rates and quality standards.
- Ability to perform all preventive maintenance on all department equipment..
- Ability to instruct operators correctly with minimum direction in the verifying and calculating of shrinkage factors in relation to tolerances.
- Ability to utilize education and on-the-job training experience to efficiently perform job duties.
- Satisfactorily completed training for Cutting Operator A / Set Up C position in accordance with Du-Co Ceramics training format.
- Good attitude, attendance and adherence to company policies and rules.
Duties Required:
- Performs duties and functions of all standard operations within the cutting department.
- May assist in the preparation of daily production schedules.
- Maintains daily production schedule; aligning work orders and tools for machine availability for production.
- Moves material to and from work areas using material handling equipment including pallet jacks and/or fork lifts.
- Interprets blueprints, sketches, specifications, written or verbal instruction on work orders in making set ups for production operations.
- Calculates length shrinkage between green ware and fired ware as required by tolerances.
- Set up, adjust and service, including preventive maintenance, all cutting department equipment.
- Inspects production periodically to insure quality parts using various gauges.
- Performs minor repairs with minimum assistance from Set Up A personnel to guide bars, stops, grinding wheels, sharpens wheels or blades
- Grooves drums for barrel cutting with minimum assistance from Set Up A personnel.
- Operate extrusion dryers, stages and schedules ware to be loaded and unloaded in dryers.
- Removes ware from racks, breaks and transfers to baskets, and delivers to designated area as necessary.
- Inspects and provides for repair and/or replacement of racks and boards.
- Complete appropriate paperwork to requisition new or repair used tools and fixtures.
- Trains, instructs and assists cutting department personnel in the methods of their assigned duties.
- Operates cutting department production equipment when needed and performs required preventive maintenance.
- Cross trains on extrusion operation and set up.
- Assists cutting operator trouble shooting production and/or machine problems.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
- Completes training in accordance with Du-Co Ceramics training format.
May be assigned any other miscellaneous duties as directed by supervisor and/or executive management.
Tools and Equipment: Various cutting equipment including single saws, barrel cutters, drum groover, extrusion dryers, drying boards, drill press, skids, pallets, material handling equipment including fork lifts and hand trucks, dollies, hand tools, and measuring devices including, but not limited to, micrometers, calipers, gauges, optical comparators, etc..
Materials: Ceramic materials.
Supervision: Cutting Supervisor. May receive direction from Cutting Set Up A personnel.
Responsibility to Direct Others: Cutting department personnel and General Factory Labor when assigned.
