Naval Architect

DSJ Global
Fort Lauderdale, FL Full Time
POSTED ON 4/23/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/22/2026

We are on the lookout for a Naval Architect to support emergency response, salvage, and wreck removal projects worldwide. This role combines hands‑on field support with advanced naval architecture and marine engineering, requiring frequent travel and the ability to deploy on short notice. The position is not primarily office‑based and involves extended assignments at project sites.

The ideal candidate is resilient, adaptable, and mission‑driven, with a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and technical excellence. A positive attitude and the ability to perform under rapidly changing conditions are just as important as engineering expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering support for emergency response, salvage, and wreck removal operations, both onsite and remotely, in coordination with project leadership.
  • Develop technical plans, drawings, diagrams, and written reports to support marine operations, towing plans, rigging designs, vessel connections, and site arrangements.
  • Perform initial response surveys, stability assessments, and hydrostatic evaluations.
  • Create 3D hull models for use in stability software and conduct damage stability and salvage analyses.
  • Determine ground reactions, ballast and cargo discharge requirements, and estimate freeing forces.
  • Design and engineer heavy‑lift, rigging, and mooring system arrangements.
  • Produce structural designs using first‑principles and advanced analysis methods.
  • Develop CAD drawings for vessel repairs, modifications, outfitting, and site plans.
  • Coordinate with classification societies and flag administrations for vessel maintenance and modifications.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and reports for assigned projects.
  • Support additional engineering and operational initiatives as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or Ocean Engineering.
  • Minimum 4 years of engineering experience in a field or production environment; salvage or emergency response experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in construction drawing development and CAD drafting.
  • Proficiency with hydrostatic calculations and stability analysis, including development of 3D hull models.
  • Hands‑on experience with GHS and AutoCAD required; familiarity with 3D CAD software preferred.
  • Experience with emergency ship repair, salvage, or wreck removal operations is a strong advantage.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required or ability to obtain; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently in dynamic, high‑pressure environments.
Travel & Work Environment
  • 50-75% travel required, with additional travel possible based on operational needs.
  • Extended deployments may occur, with individual assignments lasting up to approximately 12 weeks.
  • Work includes exposure to marine environments, outdoor conditions, and physically demanding settings.
