PRIMARY PURPOSE
Responsible for managing, or assisting in the management of, an assigned classroom to ensure a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
- Ability to interact positively with children, staff, and parents
- General knowledge of child development principles
Experience:
- None required
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Child Care
- Supervise children in the classroom and on the playground at all times, ensuring their health and safety.
- Lead or assist the lead teacher in implementing lesson plans and structured learning activities.
- Maintain a developmentally appropriate environment for children.
- Ensure each child receives individual attention and provide positive guidance to promote self-discipline and appropriate behavior.
- Coordinate with coworkers to ensure smooth daily operations of the facility.
- Assist with food preparation as needed.
- Develop positive relationships and maintain open communication with each child and their parents or guardians.
Safety and Sanitation
- Oversee activities of student workers, observers, substitutes, and volunteers as assigned.
- Maintain responsibility for the arrangement, cleanliness, and organization of the classroom.
- Follow established procedures to maintain high standards of cleanliness, health, and safety.
- Keep trash and diaper collection areas neat and sanitary.
- Correct unsafe conditions and report any conditions that cannot be immediately corrected.
- Maintain appropriate personal appearance and hygiene.
- Administer medication to children as directed and in accordance with district procedures.
- Perform emergency evacuation procedures during drills or actual events.
Other
- Promote teamwork and positive interaction with fellow staff members.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None; may provide occasional technical oversight of student workers or volunteers.

Tools/Equipment Used: Cribs, changing tables, walkers, strollers, playground equipment, and standard classroom materials.
Posture: Continual standing and walking; frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing, and pulling.
Motion: Frequent lifting and carrying.
Lifting: Must be able to lift and carry a child up to 40 pounds and safely lift infants to changing tables.
Environment: Work in a child care setting with exposure to typical classroom noise levels; fast-paced, multitask environment.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; operate effectively in a multitask environment while ensuring child safety.
