What are the responsibilities and job description for the Personal Injury Legal Assistant position at Dross Berman LLC?
Dross Berman, LLC is a plaintiff-side personal injury firm based in Rockville, Maryland. We represent injured clients across Maryland, DC and Virginia, handling auto accidents, premises liability, and related matters on a contingency fee basis. We are a close-knit team that takes our clients and our work seriously — and we're growing.
We are looking for a detail-oriented legal assistant to support our attorneys and paralegals across the lifecycle of active personal injury cases. This is an entry-level to junior role with real responsibility from day one — you will be the one keeping cases moving and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
- Contact insurance companies, providers, and third parties to obtain account balances, outstanding lien amounts, and PIP benefit information;
- Track and document medical liens, health insurance subrogation claims, and PIP reimbursement obligations across multiple cases simultaneously;
- Negotiate reduced balances with medical providers, lienholders, and insurers under attorney supervision;
- Coordinate payment of outstanding bills at settlement, ensuring accurate disbursement and proper lien resolution;
- Maintain organized case files, draft routine correspondence, and update case management software to reflect status changes;
- Communicate with clients and providers professionally, providing updates and following up on outstanding requests.
- 1–3 years of experience in a law firm setting; personal injury experience strongly preferred;
- Familiarity with liens, PIP benefits, and health insurance subrogation is a plus — but we will train the right candidate;
- Excellent phone skills and comfort communicating with insurance adjusters, medical billing departments, and clients;
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple open files without losing details;
- Reliable, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced litigation environment;
- Bilingual is a significant plus but not required.
We are a plaintiff-side firm — we are on the side of people who have been hurt. Our cases matter, and so does the work you'll do. You'll get hands-on experience, direct access to attorneys, and real opportunities to grow your skills and take on more responsibility over time.
