What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Engineer- Motor Design position at Drive System Design?
What will you be doing
You will be a Senior Engineer for the detailed design and prototyping of electric motors. This includes electromagnetic, structural and thermal analysis as well as CAD design for a variety of technologies. Design for manufacturing and assembly as well as the definition of virtual validation and physical testing plans is required. The role involves operating in a dynamic project environment including technical, commercial and customer management.
Key Responsibilities
You will be:
- Utilizing state of the art simulation techniques and design tools to design, develop and prototype electric drive systems
- Writing and presenting technical reports and results to customers
- Responsible for the delivery of small to medium sized project
- Responsible for the delivery of technical work packages within large projects
- Following DSD’s technical processes to ensure work is executed to the highest quality
- Working effectively within multi-person/cross functional projects
- Supporting business development function to generate proposals

What you will need
- Demonstrable experience in electric motor design and analysis (electromagnetic, thermal, structural)
- Thorough understanding of electromagnetic and thermal principles and their practical application
- Thorough experience with motor simulation tools such as MotorCAD, Maxwell, JMAG, etc.
- An understanding of manufacturing techniques used for electric motors for prototypes and in series production
- Knowledge of state-of-the-art materials and emerging technologies, a track record of innovation
- Experience in some of the following analysis: vibration, life and NVH
- An understanding of HV safety standards and creepage and clearance design rules
- Worked in a systems engineering environment, ability to collaborate with other teams
- An understanding of market trends and challenges, and applications of existing technology within the industry
- 1D and/or 3D thermal analysis, experience with different types of motor cooling (air, water, oil)
- Experience in the physical development/testing of motor hardware
- An understanding of motor drives and motor controls and specifically their relationship with motor design
Desirable skills:
- Understanding of adjacent powertrain subsystems such as inverters, transmissions, batteries, etc.
