What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Brand Marketing position at Drive Capital?
About Drive Capital
Drive Capital is a venture capital fund focused on building the next generation of category-defining technology companies across North America. Since our founding in 2013, we’ve invested in more than 150 companies, including Duolingo, Root Insurance, VAST Data, ApplyBoard, and Alpaca. Today, we manage over $2.5B in assets.
We believe exceptional companies can be built anywhere. Our mission is to support founders building market-defining businesses “between the coasts" and to play an active role in shaping the ecosystems where they operate.
About the Role
We’re hiring a Director of Marketing & Brand to lead and evolve how Drive shows up across the venture ecosystem.
This is a highly strategic, hands-on role for a builder – someone excited to take an existing foundation and push it forward with fresh perspective, creativity, and strong execution. You’ll shape Drive’s voice, expand our reach across key audiences, and build programs that elevate our presence across the Midwest and broader North American startup ecosystem.
This is a unique opportunity to define and scale the brand of a leading venture firm at an important moment of evolution – and to shape how Drive shows up in the market for years to come.
You’ll own Drive’s brand across content, communications, and events, partnering closely across the firm to bring it to life for our key audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Brand & Narrative Development
- Own and evolve Drive’s brand positioning across LPs, founders, and talent
- Shape how we communicate our differentiated investment thesis and portfolio impact
- Ensure consistency and quality across all external touch points
Content & Distribution
- Develop and execute a content strategy across social, web, and owned channels
- Partner with investors and portfolio companies to surface compelling stories, insights and perspectives
- Create content that resonates across three core audiences:
- LP community
- Founders and operators
- Talent (for both Drive and portfolio companies)
PR & Ecosystem Presence
- Build relationships with media to ensure Drive is consistently represented in relevant venture/startup coverage across our TAM (“The Driveway”)
- Proactively identify opportunities to insert Drive into key conversations and narratives
- Support portfolio companies with amplification where relevant
Events & Experiences
- Own strategy and execution for Drive’s flagship events, including:
- Annual LP Meeting
- TAM (The Annual Meeting speaker series) - bringing together LPs, founders and ecosystem leaders
- CEO Summit - focused on founder development and peer connection
- Reimagine and elevate the experience of these events over time
- Develop additional programming (smaller-scale events, community gatherings, etc.) to strengthen Drive’s network and brand
Program Building & Innovation
- Identify and launch new marketing initiatives that expand Drive’s reach and influence
- Experiment with new formats (content, events, partnerships) that position Drive as a leading voice in venture outside Silicon Valley
- Build scalable systems and processes as the function grows
Who You Are:
- A builder – you’re energized by creating something from a strong foundation and making it your own
- Both strategic and execution-oriented – you can set direction and also roll up your sleeves to deliver
- Deeply curious about startups, venture, and emerging technology ecosystems
- Strong storyteller with an instinct for what resonates across different audiences
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, especially in managing complex, high-touch events
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with a high bar for quality
Preferred Experience:
- 8-10 years in marketing, brand, communications, or related roles
- Experience in venture capital, startups, media or adjacent ecosystems is a strong plus
- Track record of building and scaling brand or marketing programs
- Experience owning or leading high-impact events (e.g., conferences, summits, community programming)
- Strong network or familiarity with media and PR is a plus
