What are the responsibilities and job description for the Campus Monitor position at Dripping Springs ISD?
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To maintain a highly visible and reassuring presence across campus, including halls, common areas, and the parking lot, to foster a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment. This position primarily focuses on proactive student observation, encouraging adherence to school rules, and providing general assistance to staff and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Clear and valid Texas driver’s license (Required for parking lot duties)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with students, staff, and the public.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work effectively and positively with youths and adults.
- Ability to clearly and accurately record observations and information.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Student & Hall Monitoring
- Maintain a continuous, visible presence in assigned areas (e.g., hallways, stairwells, cafeteria, grounds) to observe student activity and deter rule violations.
- Gently redirect students who are out of assigned areas, tardy, or in minor violation of school rules (e.g., dress code).
- Report ongoing or serious disciplinary issues to the Principal or Assistant Principal immediately.
- Monitor student movement during passing periods, lunch, and before/after school to ensure smooth transitions.
- Report immediately to a campus administrator or resource officer any conflict, confrontation, or suspicious activity.
Parking & Safety
- Monitor campus doors and access points to ensure they remain secured according to school protocol.
- Control traffic flow and monitor parking on campus grounds during arrival and dismissal, and when assigned, at after-hours events.
- Register student vehicles and maintain accurate records of registration.
- Issue parking reminders or citations for minor infractions (e.g., improper parking).
- Work cooperatively with the front office to communicate issues with student vehicles (e.g., improper parking, lights left on).
General Support
- Act as a guide to authorized visitors, providing directions and general information.
- Assist staff with non-emergency situations as directed.
- Notify police, fire, or campus administration of any situation requiring immediate attention (e.g., fire, medical emergency).
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and student matters.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.
MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Tools/Equipment Used: Two-way radio, standard office equipment.
Posture: Prolonged standing and walking.
Motion: Extensive walking throughout the campus; occasional moderate driving on campus grounds.
Lifting: Light lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds).
Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); moderate exposure to noise and vehicle exhaust.
Mental Demands: Maintain professional composure while interacting with students; prolonged hours.
