Job Title: Percussion Specialist
Reports to: Director of Percussion / HS/MS Head Band Director
Calendar: July 27 - November 17, 2026
Hours per Week: 15 hours per week (5 days) a week (One Semester Only)
Dept./School: High School and Middle School Campuses
PRIMARY PURPOSE
As an integral part of the DSISD Band staff, Percussion Specialist assists designing and implementing a comprehensive grade 6-12 percussion pedagogy program in conjunction with the Director of Percussion and the HS and MS Director of Bands.
QUALIFICATIONS
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong leader in percussion performance and best practices
- Excellent skills in percussion pedagogy and performance
- Ability to work with students
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Extensive experience in the marching arts (DCI, WGI, college marching band, etc.)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Essential Functions
- Assist in implementing marching and concert percussion music techniques in a full ensemble and sectional setting.
- Attend all competitions/performances as needed by the Director of Percussion.
- Attend all rehearsals during the course of the season as agreed upon by Director of Percussion and Director of Bands.
- Attend HS and/or MS summer band rehearsals. Dates and times determined by director of Bands.
Other
- Comply with policies and regulations established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student and coworker information and as required by FERPA.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking/marching
Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds)
Environment: Work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures (hot, cold, and inclement weather), humidity, and prolonged sunlight; work on uneven or slippery surfaces; frequent exposure to noise. Occasional statewide and overnight travel
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
