Job Title:                  High School Instructional Aide - ASL

Exemption Status:   Nonexempt

Reports to:               Principal & Teacher(s) Assigned 

Pay Grade/Days:     CT- 1 / 187 days

Dep’t/School:          Dripping Springs High School

Primary Purpose:

 

Maintain a highly structured and orderly environment.  Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified teacher on a daily basis.  Knowledge of ASL is prefered.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification

  • High school diploma or GED; and 
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate* (prior to day one in the classroom);

One of the following:

  • Completing of two years of study at an institution of higher education (completion of 48 semester hours of college coursework); or
  • Associate's degree or higher; or
  • Meet rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through an approved course of study for paraprofessionals (Master Teacher courses)

 Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to use personal computer
  • Ability to communicate effectively

 Experience

  • Some experience working with children

 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 Instructional Support

  1. Work with certified teacher and campus administrators to help maintain an orderly an orderly highly structured classroom environment.
  2. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  3. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  4. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

Student Management

  1. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  2. Record student attendance and discipline referrals according to established procedures.
  3. Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

  1. Maintain confidentiality.
  2. Participate in staff development training programs, to improve job performance, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  3. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Tools/Equipment Used:  Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

 

Posture:  Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping

 

Motion:  Moderate walking

 

Lifting:  Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

 

Environment:  Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise

 

Mental Demands:  Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

 

*Required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for aide’s who are providing instructional support in Title I, Part A program.
