What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pharmacy Technician, Star Medicine Pharmacy position at DRH Health?
The Pharmacy Technician I assists the Director of Pharmacy, Pharmacists, and the Pharmacy Purchasing Agent in maintaining efficient operations of the department according to current DRH policies, Joint Commission standards, and Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations.
Responsibilities (essential Functions)
Minimum Qualifications: Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English. Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive/email and navigate information technology associated with the position. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations. Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred. Must be at least 18 years old.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Current Pharmacy Technician permit issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy; May have up to 90 days to obtain after date of hire or transfer. For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

Responsibilities (essential Functions)
- Fills and refills patient medications, team member prescriptions, and departmental requisitions.
- Performs basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Assembles IVPB units, such as Minibag Plus (not sterile admixture).
- Credits and debits patients for medications through the hospital's computer system.
- Delivers and charges medications to all hospital areas.
- Uses pneumatic tube system for appropriate drug deliveries.
- Packages oral solid and liquid medications.
- Restocks automated dispensing machines. Perform loads and unloads of drugs in automated dispensing machines. Optimize automated dispensing machines to minimize expired drugs and to ensure nurses have what they need by avoiding stock outs.
- Refills crash cart trays, emergency wall drug boxes, Anesthesia emergency boxes, and procedure tackle boxes.
- Performs drug counts and site audits of medications areas.
- Checks and removes expired medications from all drug storage areas.
- Orders appropriate drug quantities from main pharmaceutical distributor. Receives drug orders into the pharmaceutical distributor’s online system.
- Proactively identifies opportunities to improve department processes and issues.
- Performs quality improvement and continuous performance improvement processes as assigned by Director.
- Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
- Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
- Must adhere to safety protocols at all times
- Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.
