Job Description
The primary function of this position is to plan, write and implement preventive and predictive maintenance tasks and procedures on key processing equipment, provide guidance, answer questions, provide information and instruction as requested, in a timely manner, observing all safety regulations and ensuring all quality standards are met and to maintain the efficient flow of product through the production process.
Role and Activity
- Put on all required PPE and Safety Gear, perform a safety check on equipment and insure safety devices are functioning properly.
- Obtain work schedule and daily production, risk predictions, from scheduler, prioritize work and prepare for operations.
- Communicate with prior and/or operator to discuss any line issues, and to insure that all E-Stops, Machine and People Guards, interlocks, chain, door and like devices have be tested and are operational according to Laurel Operations Center (LOC), Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) minimum requirements and/or prerequisites.
- Answer telephones, e-mails, voice mail and act on, address and resolve scheduling issues and concerns.
- Monitor equipment and machinery operations in order to serve as a resource to team members for preventive maintenance guidelines as well as unanticipated machinery breakdowns.
- Plan, write and implement preventive and predictive maintenance tasks and procedures on key processing equipment.
- Work with plant teams and maintenance personnel in identifying and planning work in the area.
- Plan and identify work including ordering of parts and planning the execution of work and assist with maintenance duties as required.
- Coach and develop area maintenance and other personnel in preventive/predictive maintenance principles and concepts.
- Observe maintenance and production employees at work and provide observations, instruction and incident reports as required.
- Maintain and calibrate production and shop equipment and tools, monitor boneyard, and mix tanks as required.
- Assist with the development, maintenance and implementation of safety programs and procedures.
- Investigate and assign resources to maintenance needs, provide instructions and guidance as required to support production.
- Ensure work is completed in a timely and satisfactory manner and ensure employee performance in work completed
- Establish and manage adherence to the operating unit maintenance budgets.
- Understand and utilize (TPM) concepts and finished product conformance to requirements.
- Maintain the Computerized Maintenance Management System data base (CHAMPS)
- At end of shift, secure all equipment, complete all required paperwork and perform general housekeeping and clean-up as required.

Work Environment
In this position, the employee will regularly work with and around others; in a wet and/or humid environment; in areas of high noise level; and around mechanical, electrical, and pressurized equipment. The work is fast paced.
- Cold Temperatures: Parts of the facility, such as storage and production areas, may be kept at low temperatures.
- Requires use of cold-protective PPE.
- May involve standing, lifting, and walking in refrigerated zones for extended periods.
- Fast-Paced: Workers often operate under strict timelines to meet production quotas.
- High-speed manufacturing floor with frequent movement, line assignment changes, and tight production timelines.
- Standing for Long Hours: Many roles require prolonged standing and repetitive tasks.
- Repetitive hand and arm movements required.
- Must be able to stand for hours with frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Food Safety Regulations: Employees must follow hygiene and safety guidelines, including wearing protective gear (gloves, hairnets, etc.).
- Team-Oriented: Workers collaborate to ensure smooth production and packaging.
The position involves frequent exposure to nuts and other potential allergens.
The pay scale for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The pay range for prospective employees in this role is between $35 and $41.88 per hour with opportunities for overtime, shift differential, cold premium pay and annual bonuses (variable depending on company performance).
