Description

The Drexel Way:

We don’t just sell lumber; we Supply. Happiness. Drexel is Team Member-owned and community-driven. With six retail hubs and three manufacturing plants across Wisconsin, we’ve been a Top Workplace every year since 2011. Why? Because we hire for heart and train for skill. When you join Team Blue, you aren't just a team member - you’re an owner.

The Mission:

As our Materials Specialist, your primary objective is to serve as the critical staging and material foundation for our door manufacturing operations. You are responsible for accurately reading work orders, operating automated equipment (the Barbaric door-picking system), utilizing production computers, and operating forklifts to retrieve and supply heavy door stock. As the master of the staging ground, you balance high-tech machine orchestration with hands-on material handling to ensure our Assembly Teams have exactly what they need, exactly when they need it.

Defining the Role:
  • Automated Picking (Barbaric System): Load raw doors into the Barbaric machine and use the computer software interface to direct automated picks based on scheduled shop orders.
  • Forklift Material Retrieval: Safely operate a forklift to manually pick door stock, jamb materials, and palletized inventory from high-bay racking to feed the production line.
  • Work Order Wizardry: Read and interpret computer work orders with sharp detail to catch sizing, handling, or material discrepancies before staging.
  • Master of the Staging Ground: Keep the Barbaric system and assembly stations continuously supplied with correctly labeled doors, jambs, and hardware.
  • Heavy Material Handling: Safely lift, maneuver, and align 50–100 lb door slabs and heavy components during staging and machine loading.
  • Flex Production Support: Jump into adjacent production and assembly areas as needed to alleviate bottlenecks and keep daily output moving smoothly.
  • Equipment & Workstation Care: Perform daily visual/operational checks on forklifts and automated picking equipment, keeping the staging bay safe, clean, and organized.
What Success Looks Like:

Performance is measured by your direct impact on material staging speed, computer accuracy, and shop safety:

  • Work Order Fidelity: Ensures 100% accuracy between computer job assignments, doors loaded into the Barbaric system, and materials supplied to assembly teams.
  • Production Continuity: Keeps automated picking equipment fully stocked and operational, eliminating staging bottlenecks and line downtime.
  • Equipment & Safety Compliance: Operates forklifts and automated machinery in strict accordance with safety standards, maintaining a zero-incident work environment.
  • Heavy Handling Ergonomics: Safe and efficient manual handling of 50–100 lb door slabs throughout the shift using proper lifting techniques.
  • Workload Driver: The primary workload metric is the total volume of door units successfully picked, computer-assigned, and staged per shift.
The Drexel Advantage:
