Job Description
The Drew Central School District has an opening for the position of High School Counselor. The counselor will assist students in the successful transition into and from high school, developing plans to meet personal, social and/or academic goals and career plans.
Academic Guidance
- Assist with student Personal Education Plans
- Advise students, parents/guardians for the purpose of providing information on students’ progress and/or recommendations regarding their successful transition into and from high school
- Coordinate with the school community, including teachers, college and university personnel, military, and resource specialists to facilitate the delivery of appropriate programs and services
- Monitor student records for the purpose of developing plans and/or providing information regarding students’ goals
- Assist in the development of the Master Schedule.
- Schedule student classes
- Present and/or provide information to students and parents/guardians on various post-high school topics such as scholarships, financial aid, goal-setting, skill development, scheduling, and post-high school planning
- Prepare necessary documentation for teachers, external agencies and higher education
- Maintain current program eligibility requirements (i.e. financial aid, college eligibility, NCAA, etc.)
- Assist with appropriate placement of students with specialized programs including TAG, students with disabilities, IEP’s and 504’s
- 504 Building Coordinator
- Continue professional knowledge through in-service activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
- Assist teachers and administration in establishing school programs and activities
- Assist with student testing and interpretation of results such as Advanced Placement, ASVAB, PSAT, career testing and interest inventories Career
- Coordinate with the school community, including teachers, college and university personnel, military, and resource specialists to facilitate the delivery of appropriate programs and services
- Assist with student Personal Education Plans
- Assist teachers and administration in establishing school programs and activities Present and/or provide information to students and parents/guardians on various post-high school topics such as scholarships, financial aid, goal-setting, skill development, scheduling and post-high school planning

- Assist Principal as necessary with other student needs
