PRIMARY PURPOSE: The High School ALE (Alternative Learning Environment) Paraprofessional supports students assigned to the ALE program by assisting with academic instruction, behavior intervention, supervision, and daily operations of the ALE classroom. The paraprofessional works closely with the ALE Director, teachers, counselors, and administration to help create a structured, supportive, and student-centered environment focused on academic success, behavior growth, attendance improvement, and positive relationship building.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED. A minimum of 60 college hours, or pass Praxis paraprofessional exam
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Support & Supervision
- Supervise students throughout the school day in the ALE setting and during transitions.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.
- Build positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and expectations.
- Monitor student behavior and assist with behavior interventions and de-escalation strategies.
- Support students in developing appropriate social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
- Assist with student check-in/check-out procedures and daily goal monitoring.
Academic Support
- Assist students with coursework, assignments, credit recovery, and online learning platforms.
- Provide small-group and individual academic support under the direction of certified staff.
- Help monitor student progress, assignment completion, and attendance.
- Encourage student engagement, organization, and accountability.
- Support students in staying on task and meeting classroom expectations.
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain accurate records related to attendance, behavior, interventions, and student progress as assigned.
- Assist with organizing student files and ALE documentation required by district and state guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, counselors, administrators, and families regarding student needs and progress when directed.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and information.
Program Support
- Assist with implementation of individualized student supports and intervention plans.
- Support the ALE Director in daily operations of the program.
- Help supervise students during lunch, breaks, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned duties.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the ALE Director or administration.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to supervise and move throughout the campus as needed.
- Ability to lift, bend, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to respond appropriately during student crises or emergencies.
