About the Role
The Executive Director serves as the strategic and operational leader of DFSA, responsible for advancing the mission, strengthening the financial sustainability, and leading a high-performing team.
This role partners closely with the Board of Directors and serves as the public face of the organization—driving fundraising, community engagement, and organizational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
• Lead organizational vision, strategy, and execution in partnership with the Board
• Ensure alignment of programs and operations with mission and strategic goals
Fundraising & External Relations
• In collaboration with the Development Director, drive a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including major gifts, grants, and events
• Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, partners, and community leaders
• Serve as a visible and compelling spokesperson for DFSA
Team Leadership
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing staff team
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven culture
Financial Oversight
• Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and organizational sustainability
• Partner with the Board to ensure strong financial stewardship
Programs & Impact
• Ensure effective, high-quality program delivery and continuous improvement
• Identify opportunities to expand reach and deepen impact
Operations
• Provide oversight of internal operations, including HR, systems, and facilities
• Ensure strong infrastructure and efficient day-to-day management
Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
• 10 years of leadership experience, ideally in the nonprofit sector
• Proven success in fundraising, including major gifts and donor relations
• Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors
• Strong financial management and strategic planning skills
• Exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities
Preferred:
• Master’s degree (MPA, MBA, MSW, or related)
• Professional certifications (CFRE, CNP, SHRM, etc.)
