Position Overview– Food Runner:
State & Lake Chicago Tavern, located within The Wit Hotel in the heart of downtown Chicago, is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented Food Runner to join our front-of-house team. The Food Runner plays a critical role in delivering exceptional guest experiences by ensuring food is delivered accurately, promptly, and professionally while supporting seamless communication between the kitchen and service staff.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver food orders from the kitchen to guests quickly, accurately, and according to restaurant standards.
- Verify food orders for accuracy, presentation, and completeness before leaving the kitchen.
- Communicate effectively with servers, kitchen staff, and management regarding guest needs and order modifications.
- Describe menu items and answer basic guest questions when delivering food.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of dining areas, service stations, and expo areas.
- Support servers by refilling water, clearing plates, and assisting with guest requests as needed.
- Ensure all food is presented according to quality and presentation standards.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department guidelines.
- Maintain a positive, professional, and guest-focused attitude at all times.
- Assist with opening, closing, and side work duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Previous restaurant, hospitality, or food service experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Passion for hospitality and providing outstanding guest service.
Working Conditions:
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout shifts.
- Ability to carry food trays safely and efficiently.
- Ability to work in a busy restaurant environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
- Fast-paced hospitality environment.
- Requires extended periods of standing and walking.
- May involve occasional lifting of items up to 25 lbs.
- Indoor work environment with frequent movement throughout the restaurant

Compensation:
- $12.62 per hour
