Duties
- Accurately read water meters using handheld meter reading devices or manual methods across assigned routes.
- Inspect meters for signs of damage, leaks, or tampering, and report issues promptly.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on water meters and related equipment utilizing hand tools and power tools.
- Locate underground utility lines using utility locating equipment to ensure safe access during meter readings.
- Follow safety protocols including DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and NEC (National Electrical Code) standards during all field activities.
- Document readings and maintenance activities precisely, updating digital or manual logs as required.
- Engage with customers professionally to explain meter readings or address inquiries while maintaining excellent customer service standards.
Qualifications
- Prior experience working outdoors in utility or field service environments is highly preferred.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in equipment repair and maintenance.
- Familiarity with utility locating techniques, low voltage electrical systems, and power tools usage.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting, climbing, manual handling, and walking extensive distances daily.
- Basic math skills for recording and verifying meter readings accurately.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience driving in various conditions is advantageous.
- Knowledge of safety protocols including DOT regulations and proper use of hand tools and safety gear.
- Experience working with handheld meter readers or similar technical devices is a plus.
