Role Description The Landscape Designer is a full-time, on-site role based in Pittsburgh, PA. This position is responsible for creating functional and visually appealing landscape designs for residential and commercial properties, including plantings, hardscapes, and outdoor living spaces. Day-to-day tasks include meeting with clients to understand their needs, conducting site visits and measurements, developing design concepts and plans, and preparing estimates and material lists. The role involves collaborating closely with installation and maintenance teams to ensure designs are implemented as planned and within budget. The Landscape Designer also monitors project progress, adjusts plans as needed, and provides professional guidance on plant selection, lawn and plant health care, and long-term landscape maintenance.
Qualifications
- Experience in landscape design, including creating site plans, plant layouts, and hardscape concepts using hand drawings and/or design software.
- Knowledge of horticulture, plant identification, lawn and plant health care, and sustainable landscape practices appropriate to the Pittsburgh, PA region.
- Ability to conduct site assessments, take accurate measurements, and translate client needs into practical, buildable designs.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to present design concepts, explain options, and manage expectations professionally.
- Organizational and project coordination skills, including scheduling, working with field crews, and tracking materials and timelines.
- Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions and on active job sites, with a commitment to safety practices.
- Prior experience in landscape design, landscape architecture, or a related field; formal education or certification in landscape design or horticulture is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites in and around Pittsburgh, PA.
