Duties
- Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC systems including air conditioning units, boilers, refrigeration units (including ammonia refrigeration), ventilation systems, and related mechanical equipment.
- Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, and HVAC design documents to accurately diagnose issues and execute repairs.
- Perform plumbing work related to HVAC systems such as pipe fitting, drainage connections, and water supply lines.
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks to ensure HVAC equipment operates efficiently and reliably; this includes cleaning components, replacing filters, lubricating parts, and calibrating controls.
- Utilize diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters to test electrical circuits and components; perform equipment repairs using welding or mechanical techniques as needed.
- Operate a
driver vehicle safely to transport tools, parts, or equipment between job sites. - Repair appliances associated with property maintenance that impact HVAC performance or occupant comfort.
- Document all service activities thoroughly through detailed reports; maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used, and system conditions.
- Adhere to safety protocols during all operations; ensure compliance with industry standards for handling refrigerants (including refrigerant recovery) and ammonia systems.
- Collaborate with property managers or clients to assess HVAC needs; provide recommendations for upgrades or system replacements when appropriate.
Experience
- Proven experience as an HVAC technician or service technician with a strong background in construction environments or property maintenance settings.
- Hands-on experience with HVAC/R systems—including refrigeration (especially ammonia refrigeration), air conditioning units, boilers, ventilation fans—and associated mechanical components.
- Familiarity with schematics, technical drawings, HVAC design principles and troubleshooting procedures.
- Mechanical knowledge covering plumbing systems, appliance repair techniques, welding skills for metal fabrication or repairs, and boiler operation is highly desirable.
- Field service experience working directly on equipment repair in commercial or residential properties is essential.
- Ability to operate diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters confidently; experience with equipment repair including motors and control panels is preferred.
- Knowledge of safety standards related to refrigerant handling and ammonia refrigeration systems; certification in these areas is a plus.
