POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Planning Manager, manages all development related applications and materials submitted to the Planning division for review. Completes planning and zoning reviews for applications that are limited in scope and conducts zoning research under the direction of the Planning Manager or other Planners. These reviews may include: business licenses, signage, building permits, accessory dwelling unit permits, and other land use applications. This position offers professional advice and guidance to both the development community and citizens, who approach the Community Development department counter for assistance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Receives and routes development applications as submitted by the development community and public.
- Creates and maintains electronic files for each development application submitted.
- Processes development applications, sign permits, and zoning research requests.
- Assists in the processing of building permits through the certification of zoning compliance.
- Processes and reviews accessory dwelling unit permits for zoning compliance.
- Staffs the Community Development counter and phone to answer questions concerning planning and development applications.
- Interprets the city’s development related ordinances and policies in the review of development applications and in response to inquiries from the general public.
- Coordinates with development applicants in the processing of their applications.
- Reviews and interprets commercial and residential development plans.
- Answers questions of the general public regarding planning and zoning in Draper.
- Directs questions or concerns received from the general public that do not regard planning and zoning matters to the appropriate department, division or representative.
- Occasionally present development applications to the Draper City Planning Commission and Zoning Administrator.
- Provides support to the Planners on land use and ordinance studies.
- Promotes a high level of customer service in the department and good public relations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education – High school diploma or G.E.D. Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, real estate, public administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience – Four years of customer service experience in a development, permitting, or relevant environment,
- License – Valid Utah Driver License.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Typical office setting with comfortable climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required for most essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Occasionally lifts or otherwise moves objects weighing up to 25 pounds. This position has exposure to stressful situations. Work is often performed under deadlines and time constraints. May drive a motor vehicle. Attendance at evening meetings on occasion.
