Overview
The Pharmacy Technician provides essential administrative support within the Pharmacy Department Call Center, handling routine tasks that don't require direct oversight from the Pharmacy Manager. Responsibilities include administrative and clerical tasks integral to daily operations across multiple departmental programs, ensuring departmental goals are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the daily functions of Pharmacy Department programs, engage in diverse projects, and assist during Plan and regulatory audits as needed.
- Conduct numerous outbound calls to members, prescribers, and pharmacies regarding medication adherence.
- Help members manage prescription refills and coordinate with prescriber offices for additional maintenance medication refills as necessary.
- Prepare standard reports and routine correspondence.
- Assist in overseeing PBM-related CMS processes, including Rebates, EOB reports, Transition Reports, and Part B vs Part D compliance.
- Address formulary and prescription benefit inquiries from physicians, members, and pharmacies.
- Obtain precise, relevant, and timely medication information.
- Communicate effectively with the Plan’s PBM to ensure internal departments receive necessary information.
- Coordinate with PBM regarding Prior Authorizations, Overrides, and other medication-related member issues.
- Make proactive calls to pharmacies and prescriber offices to resolve prescription challenges, address third-party rejections, and ensure daily compliance with CMS standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve pharmacy-related issues.
- Partner closely with the compliance team to confirm Pharmacy Programs adhere to CMS regulations.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all member information per HIPAA guidelines.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Required: At least 1 year of customer-facing experience.
- Required: Availability to work on-site 5 days per week.
- Preferred: Previous Pharmacy Technician experience in healthcare.
- Preferred: Retail Pharmacy experience highly desired.
- Sales or Outbound calls experience
Education:
- Required: High School Diploma or GED.
- Preferred: Pharmacy Tech School
Specialized Skills:
Required:
- Type 35 - 40 WPM
- Strong organizational skills
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform mathematical calculations and calculate simple statistics correctly
- Familiarity with medical and pharmaceutical terminology, medication dosages, generic and brand names, and applications of medication therapy.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities, capable of building positive relationships with peers and members
- Advanced reasoning abilities for effectively prioritizing tasks, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Effective organizational and time management skills suited for fast-paced environments.
Preferred but not required: Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish or English/Chinese or English/Vietnamese
Licensure:
- Required: Valid California Pharmacy Technician License.
- Preferred: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
