About the Role
We're seeking a skilled proactive Construction Manager – Fiber to the Home Network Build to join our Network and Engineering Team. Reporting to the VP of Network Deployment you will be responsible for lead the execution of our Fiber to the Home (FTTH) network builds. This role is responsible for managing construction resources, ensuring quality and safety compliance, and overseeing all aspects of field construction activities.
Key Responsibilities
Contractor Management:
- Manage third-party construction contractors and subcontractors ensuring.
- Assist the Project Manager to define scopes of work and performance expectations.
- Monitor contractor progress and ensure adherence to project timelines and standards.
Technician Management:
- Hire, train, and manage the daily activities of internal Outside Plant Technicians.
- Review timesheets, approve overtime, and expense reports for employees.
Construction Procedures & Materials:
- Develop and implement standardized construction procedures and best practices.
- Evaluate and select appropriate materials for fiber deployment.
- Ensure materials meet quality and regulatory standards.
Quality Assurance:
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor construction quality.
- Identify and resolve issues related to workmanship, materials, or compliance.
- Maintain documentation of quality checks and corrective actions.
Invoice Review & Cost Control:
- Review contractor invoices for accuracy and alignment with work performed.
- Validate quantities, rates, and change orders.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager on budget tracking and reporting.
Damage Claims & Safety Compliance:
- Investigate and manage damage claims related to construction activities.
- Ensure all construction activities comply with safety regulations and company policies.
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability on job sites.
Training & Development:
- Train and mentor new internal construction technicians.
- Provide guidance on installation techniques, safety protocols, and company standards.
- Support ongoing skill development and performance improvement.
Required Skills
- Experience managing fiber optic or utility construction projects.
- Employee management experience is required.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safety regulations.
- Ability to manage multiple contractors and field teams effectively.
- Proficiency in construction management tools and documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- High school diploma required, technical certification or degree in construction management or related field preferred.
Preferred Skills
- OSHA certification or equivalent safety training.
- Experience with FTTH deployments and underground/aerial construction.
- Familiarity with GIS systems and fiber network documentation tools.
