The Assistant Principal of Instruction at Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy (HFCA) serves as a key member of the campus leadership team and is responsible for driving instructional excellence and academic achievement across the school. This leader ensures the consistent implementation of high-quality, standards-aligned instruction and fosters a culture of accountability, rigor, and continuous improvement among staff.
The Assistant Principal of Instruction leads curriculum implementation, instructional coaching, data-driven decision-making, and teacher development systems. This role conducts regular classroom observations, provides actionable feedback, facilitates professional development, and supports teachers in strengthening instructional planning, differentiation, and assessment practices. The Assistant Principal analyzes student achievement data to identify trends, inform interventions, and close achievement gaps, while partnering closely with the Assistant Principal of School Culture and other campus leaders to ensure that strong instructional practices and strong culture systems operate in alignment to maximize student outcomes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Leadership

Lead the development and execution of the campus instructional vision aligned to HFCA’s strategic priorities.

Ensure curriculum implementation is rigorous, standards-aligned, and prepares scholars for college readiness.

Conduct frequent classroom observations and walkthroughs focused on instructional quality, student engagement, and academic rigor.

Provide actionable coaching and feedback to teachers to improve instructional practice.

Lead weekly instructional coaching cycles and professional growth conversations.

Support new teacher onboarding and ongoing instructional development.
Data & Achievement

Lead campus-wide data analysis cycles (interim assessments, benchmark exams, state assessments, internal assessments).

Facilitate data meetings with grade-level and content teams to identify trends and drive instructional adjustments.

Develop and monitor action plans to close achievement gaps.

Ensure targeted interventions are implemented for scholars not meeting proficiency.

Track and report progress toward campus academic goals.

Facilitate and coordinate all school-wide assessments (e.g., MAP, ACT, and other required state or network assessments), including scheduling, test administration logistics, staff training, and compliance with testing protocols.
Professional Development

Design and lead professional development aligned to instructional priorities.

Build teacher capacity in lesson planning, differentiation, formative assessment, and engagement strategies.

Model best instructional practices and co-plan with teachers as needed.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional accountability.
Curriculum & Planning

Oversee curriculum alignment to state standards and college-readiness benchmarks.

Ensure lesson plans reflect clear learning objectives, aligned assessments, and differentiated strategies.

Support vertical alignment across grade levels to ensure skill progression.

Collaborate with content leads and instructional coaches to maintain instructional coherence.
Leadership & Collaboration

Serve as a member of the campus leadership team.

Partner with the Assistant Principal of School Culture to ensure instructional systems and culture systems are aligned.

Assist in recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of instructional staff.

Participate in scholar recruitment and retention efforts.

Support family communication related to academic performance and expectations.
Staff Supervision

Supervise designated instructional staff, content leads, and/or grade-level leads.

Conduct formal evaluations and performance management processes aligned to HFCA frameworks.

Develop individualized growth plans for teachers based on performance data.
