The Academic Habits Teacher is responsible for developing scholars' executive functioning, academic behaviors, and success skills necessary for achievement in school, college, and beyond. This role focuses on helping students build strong habits related to organization, time management, goal setting, self-advocacy, study skills, and personal accountability. The Academic Habits Teacher provides direct instruction, academic coaching, and targeted support to help scholars monitor their progress, overcome challenges, and take ownership of their learning. Through collaboration with families, teachers, and school leaders, this role works to ensure all students develop the habits, mindsets, and skills necessary for long-term academic success and college readiness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Academic Habits Instruction

  • Design and facilitate daily lessons focused on executive functioning, organization, time management, study skills, goal setting, self-advocacy, and personal responsibility.
  • Teach scholars how to effectively manage coursework, track assignments, prepare for assessments, and develop productive learning habits.
  • Incorporate college and career readiness competencies into instruction.
  • Reinforce HFCA's PRIDE values through daily instruction and student interactions.

Student Academic Coaching

  • Monitor student grades, attendance, assignment completion, and academic progress.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one and small-group coaching sessions with scholars.
  • Support students in setting academic and personal goals and creating action plans to achieve them.
  • Teach students how to utilize planners, calendars, academic trackers, and organizational systems.
  • Provide targeted intervention for students who are struggling academically or demonstrating inconsistent academic habits.

Data Analysis & Progress Monitoring

  • Analyze student performance data to identify trends and areas requiring intervention.
  • Maintain accurate records of student goals, coaching sessions, interventions, and progress.
  • Develop individualized academic support plans for students requiring additional assistance.
  • Utilize data to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust supports accordingly.

Student Success & College Readiness

  • Promote behaviors and habits that prepare scholars for success in college and beyond.
  • Support scholars in developing self-management, perseverance, resilience, and accountability.
  • Facilitate student reflection activities and progress reviews.
  • Help students understand graduation requirements, academic expectations, and postsecondary readiness benchmarks.

Family Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and academic goals.
  • Partner with parents and guardians to support the development of strong academic habits.
  • Provide families with tools and resources to reinforce organizational and study skills at home.

Collaboration & Schoolwide Support

  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, deans, and administrators to support student achievement.
  • Participate in MTSS, SST, and intervention meetings.
  • Work closely with classroom teachers to identify and address barriers to student success.
  • Support schoolwide academic initiatives and student recognition programs.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in professional development related to executive functioning, academic interventions, and student success.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and accountability.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support scholar achievement and the mission of HFCA.
