Controller

Dr. Comfort
Mequon, WI Full Time
POSTED ON 7/6/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 12/28/2026

About the Company:

Dr. Comfort keeps people moving. As a leading manufacturer of therapeutic and diabetic footwear, custom orthotics, and compression products, we make the difference between a person staying active and independent versus losing mobility to a preventable foot complication. Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Mequon, Wisconsin, we’ve grown into a national name trusted by healthcare professionals and retailers across the U.S. and internationally — and we’re not done. We’re investing in our leadership team, modernizing how we operate, and building the financial discipline to match our ambition. This is a company on the move, and we want finance leaders who want to build something, not just maintain it.

Corporate Controller

Role Description: This is a build role, not a maintenance role. Reporting directly to the SVP of Finance, the Director, Corporate Controller will own the company’s accounting operations and financial reporting function in a fast-paced manufacturing environment — and will have real latitude to strengthen it. We need a hands-on leader who can run a tight close, get manufacturing cost accounting right, and build the kind of internal controls and financial visibility that lets the rest of the executive team make confident decisions. You’ll partner directly with operations and the executive leadership team, not just report to them. If you want a controller seat where your fingerprints are on the systems and the team you build, this is it.

Why This Role: You’ll have a direct line to the SVP of Finance and a seat at the table with the executive leadership team — not buried in process, but driving it. This is a chance to professionalize a finance function during a real growth chapter, with the autonomy to fix what’s broken, build what’s missing, and shape a team you’re proud of.

Key Responsibilities:

·      Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, payroll accounting, bank reconciliations, and cash management.

·      Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting.

·      Prepare, review, and present financial statements, management reporting packages, account reconciliations, variance analyses, and supporting schedules.

·      Develop, maintain, and continuously improve internal controls, accounting policies, close checklists, and financial processes to safeguard company assets and improve reporting accuracy.

·      Lead manufacturing cost accounting activities, including standard costing, inventory valuation, labor, material and overhead variance analysis, cycle counts, and margin analysis.

·      Partner with operations, supply chain, and executive leadership to evaluate cost drivers, working capital, inventory levels, pricing support, and operational performance.

·      Coordinate external audits, tax filings, compliance requests, and other financial reporting requirements.

·      Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis to inform strategic business decisions.

·      Manage banking relationships, cash forecasting, borrowing base or lender reporting, and working capital initiatives as applicable.

·      Lead, develop, and mentor the accounting team, including any offshore accounts receivable or shared-service resources, while setting clear expectations and accountability.

·      Drive process improvements, automation, reporting enhancements, and ERP optimization, with a focus on NetSuite and related finance systems.

Qualifications:

·      Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.

·      CPA required or actively in process; public accounting experience strongly preferred.

·      Hands-on experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools; NetSuite experience is required.

·      10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role within a manufacturing, distribution, or similar product-based environment.

·      Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, audit support, tax compliance, and month-end close best practices.

·      Demonstrated expertise in manufacturing cost accounting, inventory management, standard costing, variance analysis, and gross margin analysis.

·      Advanced analytical skills with the ability to translate financial data into clear insights and actionable recommendations.

·      Proven ability to lead teams, improve processes, manage deadlines, and partner effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

·      High attention to detail, strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a continuous-improvement mindset.
