Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Optometric/Ophthalmic Scribe to join our growing eye care team. The ideal candidate will work closely with our doctors to document patient encounters in real time, enhance clinical efficiency, and help deliver an exceptional patient experience.
This position is ideal for someone interested in healthcare, optometry, ophthalmology, or medical assisting who enjoys working in a fast-paced clinical environment and interacting with patients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Accompany the physician during patient examinations and accurately document findings in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Record patient histories, chief complaints, diagnoses, treatment plans, and physician recommendations.
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure necessary equipment and documentation are available.
- Assist with patient flow throughout the clinic to maintain efficient schedules.
- Enter orders, referrals, prescriptions, and testing information as directed by the physician.
- Educate patients regarding testing procedures and follow-up instructions.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- May be asked to perform duties as an optometric technician as needed.
- Assist with administrative and clinical duties as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong computer and typing skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
Preferred
- Previous experience as an ophthalmic scribe, medical scribe, ophthalmic technician, optometric technician, or medical assistant.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR).
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience in ophthalmology or optometry.
Certifications (Preferred but Not Required)
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
- Certified Paraoptometric (CPO)
- Medical Assistant Certification
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role operates in a professional office setting. Physical demands include talking, hearing, using hands and fingers, standing, walking, sitting, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level is typically low to moderate.
